Hi everyone,
Just wanted to know if anybody is feeling the same as I am......
Tender and tight breasts...growing bigger and the nipples have pain in them too.

I have changed my bra size but still.
I know everybody feels different.
But in my last pregnancy also the breasts were very heavy thru the pregnancy and it only relieved after i pumped the milk after delivery!!!!
My baby would not latch on properly and the nippples were sore then.

This time I am planning to make it (breastfeeding)a good experience........
Let us see.

How are you guys handling this?
how do you plan to handle the breastfeeding afterwards??

rgds,

Neha

So by Chd(?) you mean you are also in Pune?
I am curious because here in India itself I found that evry Doc has a difft way of handling pregnant patients.
I mean the course of treatment is the same but the tests they prescribe on routine basis- kind of- has a varied order.
My doc here has made 3-4 times internal checkup in the 1 st trim' r..unlike it was in the US. The Doc there only did it first for the PAP Smear and in the last 2-3 weeks to check the dilation..it feels weird to compare but.......
anyway..
keep us posted.

Hi shweta and Neha,
Shweta, its sad that you didnt have enough milk with your first child.Hope that it wont happen this time.what i have written was from what i read through net and other sourses.but experience is a better teacher anytime and that way you know better....
And my doctors(different doctor this time) didnt go for any internal checkups during my first and this pregnancy.i had internal checkups only when i was going for labor last time.so i dont know why some doctors are doing it this often?
Bye and take care:)

Hi Shweta and Neha,
From what i have learned, having less milk is just a misconception most mothers have.actually a mothers body produce sufficient milk for the baby if she is healthy, free of any medical problems.
so just eat healthy food with lots of fluids and try to feed the baby whenever he/she needs, day and night.your body is sure to produce that much milk.
most of the times, its the elders in the family who ask us to provide outside milk, formula saying that the baby may be hungry.but dont fall under that pressure.upto six months, feed only breastmilk if you can.its the best food for the baby and will help him in a big way.also it helps you to loose the calories, and recover after delivery.
i breastfed my son till he is 3 yrs old,so i went a bit too far with BF last time and plan to do the same this time also.

Hi Smitha and shweta,
In my case also last time my baby kept crying in spite of suffiecient milk supply from the breast.....the breasts were engorged due to excess milk and the baby was not able to suck properly he used latch on and kind of chew hard on the nipples with gums instead of sucking!!!
So the first month I had to pump the milk and gave him aformula feed at night as well.
But my milk supply got reduced because of the heavy medication (acct to traumatic delivery and bleeding aftermath)......
So he was fed formula afterwards.

This time i am trying and hoping for the breastfeeding to go smooth.

Shweta,
I don' t think a small nipple size will affect breastfeeding.......make sure that your baby opens his/her mouth wide to take in mouthful of breast tissue (not only the aerola) when he latches on!
And for good milk supply .....I was told to take milk with Shatavari kalp(1 spoonful) daily twice.
I have started taking it now also as it also supports the pregnancy and the feeding process afterwards.
you can get it from any ayurvedic (medical) store in India.
If you are abroad then you will need to have it mailed to you from your close relatives periodically.

Methi dana soaked in water and added to subji or soups can also help.
Drinking lots of fluids(juice, soups, dal, water, and milk) that should do the trick.

will add more later as I learn.

Neha

Smitha,
believe me i m healthy n have been taking gud diet, whatever people have suggested i´ ve taken, n i very much fit medically, but still discharge of milk was very less and that too was on one side of breast. so although i tried till 1 year, but my poor daughter kept crying n v couldn´ t find out the reason... now i going 2 buy wat neha has suggested me... i feel its better 2 start formula milk than to make baby cry all the time, also i´ ll have to start this as i m planning 2 join office soon after maternity leave.

Hi Neha,
Yes,my brests are also tender, and bigger than prepregnancy. They are uncomfortable and i dont like them that big.
But other than that,i have no problems as such.Last time,i had problems breastfeeding for the first few days and then everything was okay.so i guess it will be easier this time.
Regards,
smitha
