Hi,

Just wanted to say one thing, that choose your pediatrician and ask him/her what thermometer you should buy because generally for infants doctor prefer rectal temp, so you should buy a rectal thermometer

For my first one I used zinc oxide cream (I think I remember it correctly) instead on regular diaper cream.

Bye

hi,
i m also going to breast feed. but i m planning to give formula once during the night feeding- baby will sleep for 4-6 hrs instead of waking up after 2 hrs it seems..

pertoleum jelly is used on baby's butt instead of diaper rash cream.

alchol swabs are for the umblical cord hanging outside baby's tummy after delivery, to disinfect it..dont worry hospital usually gives it to u and they also teach u how to use it.

if ur baby is sleeping in the bedroom, u can patiently cook if u hv a baby monitor..or if u wanna go to restroom, u can..without worring if ur baby is gonna wake up..cos u ll hear it!

my husband wants to use a baby sling when we go for walks or shopping..

stroller is a must in USA!! imagine carrying ur little one around in the big shopping malls for hrs!!

if u dont use diapercream everytime u change ur baby's diaper, he'll get rashes on his butt!! and doctor will prescribe ointments to apply..

i think just for first 2 weeks, i m planning to use both cloth and disposable ones...then switch to disposables

jus like u, i m also worried about buying too much. but, i rather have it, and not use it then desperately need it and mot have it!! u can always return unused stuff if u save the receipts

Purnima

How did you come up with such an exhaustive list? When I read it ,I was wondering if I had atleast 50% of what yo have liste !!!.But gr8 job.I need to save it.
Mine is not going to be an addition to your list.I think youve covered all.I might think of not getting some of these immediately and make decision once the baby is here.
I plan to exclusively breastfeed for the first 8 months(keeping m fingers crossed). So Im not going for formula and other related stuff. If you are going to be a SAHM ,you could consider bf as well.
Why do you need petroleum jelly and alcohol swabs?
Do we really need a baby monitor? If yes,Id add that to my list.We live in an apartment and I was wondering if it was needed.
And why baby sling and stroller?
And why diper cream and ointment?
Also do we need cloth diapers?

Im a first timer and I have no clue on what to buy.Im sorry if my comments were dumb.I think the first time we all tend to go overboard and buy plenty of things to realise that not all were needed.I think second time moms are the best bet on these.

Second time moms, across all boards,if you happen to read this post, please help first timers.(Nila on our baord -share expereinces)

Hi gals,

that is quite a list.

Heres from my first experience:

1. rubbing alcohol was a must for us since my son's chord fell after 2 months. can anyone believe?

2. we did not buy crib.

3. no monitors. instead i had a fischer price cradle/swing which unfortunately we gave it away and now i am desperately looking for that model. it was a boon. now fischer price does not manufacture that model anymore. so that was portable and i used to have in my livign roon and cook in kitchen. never dared to take bath leaving the baby alone till he turned 3.

4. never really used diaper cream. just aveeno. in summers i used cloth ones from india.

5. after trying johnson's baby shower, baby magic and others finally my son's skin only took one brand well which i used till now. i suggest going for that to all moms. " california baby" bathshower/shampoo. it is very expensive but worth it.

6. bought a sling but could not bear the weight on my back. so returned it. not sure if i will buy it again. stroller ofcourse is useful especially when baby is old enough , umbrella strollers are very useful.

7. did not use breastpumps or bottles. i tried breastpump once but did not work for me. it does not work for everyone even though i nursed him well through more than his 2 years.

hope it helps.

now this time i am looking at first years sleeper that can be used on our bed. any inputs on this?
