Due Date Club October 2006:Archie - question on baby position
2006-07-05

Hi Archie,

I am in Week 27 now and reported increased watery discharge to the Doc. The doc checked me internally and said that there is no leakage of fluid (thank god!) but the baby is head down already. She said it is too early for this to happen and advised 2 weeks rest and a USG thereafter. But due to job commitments, I am working half-day and taking complete rest for the balance day (Doc is fine with this).

But people around are giving me conflicting opinions on whether this is normal or not.

I have taken the pregnancy quite seriously from the beginning and do my pre-natal exercises regularly and also take half-an-hour walks everyday. I did not have a low-lying placenta at any of my USG or physical check-ups earlier. The baby movements also are quite fine.

Can you please tell me –
a) Is this a matter of concern if the baby is head down at this stage?
b) Should I stop exercising and taking walks?
c) She has prescribed a 8-day course of Tab Duvadilan and Canasten ointment. Any idea what’s the purpose for these?

Thanks,
Prajakta

Prajakta,
I would not be concerned much because baby is in cephalic presentation. If not this week it was expected to be in this presentation anytime from next week. That is not a major concern.

You may reduce exercise and get on easy steps only for a few more week, say until completing 34 weeks.

prescription is to stop any contractions those might bring a preterm labor in queue. I would suggest to take medication and would help to prevent any early labor if that's what was to happen. But after 34 weeks talk to Dr. on cuting down on these medicines.
