Hi,

I belong to north India but currently in chennai. In north we genreally go for body massage after delivery as it helps in recovery.
Do people in south go for body massage. If yes what do you call maids (in tamil)who give such type of massage . I am trying to look for some maid who can givesome light body massage and als do some household work but not able to explain these things in tamil.

i belong to chennai but have been born and brought up in the north so am aware of both customs..the custom is slightly different in the south as opposed to the north. here the mother or MIL will give oil massage to the body and head every alternate day after the 11the day of delivery and follow it with a bath immediately. as far as i know mostly it wud be done by the mother or MIL tillthe time you feel you can do it yourself.however with trends changing i am sure nowadays there will be maids available for this purpose but you may need to enquire.
the main difference is that in north after the maid does body massage we leave it on for about an hour or so before taking bath .thats not the case here.also the massage isnot as extensive as thats done in north..
try asking your OB/GYN or some nurse/ayah in the nursing home u go to and am sure they will have some info.
my parents are still in the north and thas where i had my delivery.so my mum mixed both customs.she did call an ayah to do the massage so that it was pretty extensive. but i used to bathe immediately!!!

I am from Chennai and not familiar with the specific body massage they give after delivery. But if you are talking about the general oil application...massage and helping you take bath....you can ask your maid to do.
