Due Date Club October 2006:Too much weight gain please help!!!!!

Hey everyone,

I'm in the 26th week and have gained about 20 pounds overall. I have gained 10 pounds in the last 4 weeks. Until now my weight gain had been pretty stable at about 4 pounds per week. The doctor has asked me to switch over to skim milk and also reduce intake of fruits as 10 pounds in a month is a lot. I'm really worried as I have the glucose test coming up after 2 weeks. I've read somewhere that too much weight gain might result in gestational diabetis. This is really scaring me.

Please can archie or someone tell me what I can do to stabilize the weight gain before this gets really serious.

Hi Aashi,

I am pretty much in the same boat. I had almost no weight gain till the last month and then 9lbs in one month!!
I pretty much freaked out, I too have not yet tested for GD! Doc says to reduce carbs..rice/potatoes..

All my snacks used to be high carb stuff..cereal, cereal bars, pb&j sandwich and now I need to completely turn around and eat something else.
Been trying fruit (apple, cherries, dates, banana), juice, carrots and small quantities of nuts.
What is funny is I am more hungry now than I used to be so its even more difficult.
Good luck for the GD test.

Hey SK,

I completely understand about feeling more hungry now than before. I too feel the same. What's worse is work is pretty hectic so I really don't have much time during weekdays to make healthier meals. But I suppose that will have to change now. I've started drinking skim milk, no fruit juices at all. For snacks I used to carry Quaker Cereal bars but now I'll have to find something else. Fruit is good I think, plus I really like fruit, so it's almost as if I can't resist it. Although I've been trying to to avoid mangoes and bananas thinking that they might be too fattening.

If you come across some other snack or anything else that might be appropriate to eat under the circumstances, please share it. I think carrots is a good suggestion.

try to reduce salt and carbs, I suspect it to be due to fluid retension. By the way 20 pounds in 26 weeks gestation is not way high.

Thanks for the quick reply archie :)

You are so helpful to all of us here and we really appreciate it.

My doctor was concerned that 10lbs in one month is way too much. I had a veggie sandwich for lunch and am still hungry. I still got another 6 hours at work and I have nothing but fruit for snacks (mango, cantelope and strawberies). Any suggestions for healthy snacks?

Hi Person,
