Due Date Club March 2007:Leg Cramps

Hi Gals,

I have been having this annoying leg cramps for the past 3 days during the nights. It was kind of mild initially but yesterday it was uncomfortable. My mom and grandmom say that it is common during the last trimester and I have also read some information about it. My doubt is whether it has anything to do with my calcium intake. Do throw your inputs on leg cramps and if at all whether something can be done to avoid it.

Regards,
AVB

Cramps are common during last trimester (like someone mentioned here). When I had my 31st week check up my doc was surprised I was not taking any calcium supplement. The first question that followed was.. don't you get cramps? I changed docs since I shifted from Chennai to Bangalore. I mentioned that I drink 3 glasses of milk, she still put me on a calcium tablet (take the swallow type one if you don't like chewy one). Also Vitamin D is required for calcium absorption, so make sure you go for a walk in mild sunlight.

I usually get cramps over weekend when I am at home. At office, I always keep my legs elevated on the dustbin (kept upside down), helps both to prevent cramps and also to prevent swelling.

Hi Kirti,

Thanks for all your suggestions. I am continuing my prenatal supplements and drink 3 glasses of milk everyday. I mostly get during nights for a short duration. Now it is kind of infrequent ...hopefully it will stay that way.

Hey everyone,

It is very common to get leg cramps during pregnency, when i aske my doc she suggested to do lot of exercise.
Try to do lot of walking and get some Prenatal labour and stretching exercise CD's it helps me.
