Due Date Club October 2006:Archie, please reply...

Hi Archie,

I am in my 24th week. My last U/S was done during my 21st week. Its mentioned that the placenta is anterior. Not knowing what that meant I googled it and have read a few things saying it can make for a difficult labour as the baby is likely to be facing the wrong way going into labour. Some sites also mentioned that this will be a case of C- section. Please let me know if it is true?

I was blissfully happy not knowing what it ment, but now it has caused me some worry. Hoping to get your reply at the earliest.

Thanks in advance...
Anjali.

Your scan at 21st wk might have shown it is anterior but there is lot of time for the fixation to happen. There is nothing to worry at this point of time. When your delivery is approaching, then it matters what the position of the baby is. As of now don't worry too much. The fixation will happen.

Anjali,
I won't worry today. Because many can have vaginal birth with anterior placenta as well. But it's tough labor for baby and sometime mother can have heavy pelvic damange- can cause incontinence in future. you can choose C-section or vaginal on the last minute.

yes, mainly baby will face his back to your spine (sunnyside up) and cane lead to C-section but not mandatory.

Your planceta will not be posterior.

Oceanbaby: once it's anterior it can move upward but not to get it fixed to posterior side. Yes, baby can be mostly OP (sunnyside up) but in a rare case it can be anterior as well just as it should be with posterior placenta.
