Due Date Club October 2006:Nervous...
2006-06-02

Hi all,

It looks like my parents may not be with me when the baby is born. They were supposed to come here in Oct and may not be able to make it till almost Nov end...about 3 or 4 weeks after my due date. My in-laws also might not be able to make it.

I am feeling a little nervous about handling it alone. My husband and I were anyway planning to go for the child-birth classes. Also I have been reading up as much as possible to be more aware, but still apprehensive about doing things without parents.

Do any of you have ideas for being better pepared to handle this? Anyone gone through such an experience already?

Do share..

Hi SK,
Iam from the nov board. It looks like we both sail in the same boat. My due date is on nov 18 and my parents could not come till dec. My MIL can come after feb only. Since this is my first pregnancy iam also nervous to handle it alone. Iam praying that everything should go on smoothly. We have planned to look for a maid till our parents come. Moreover we have to plan ahead and keep everything ready.Keep stocks of wash cloths, diapers, paper towels, toilet paper etc.. also keep all food materials(whichever is easy to cook),energy drink etc so that we can regain our energy to do all the chores ourselves. Ask your hubby whether he could do work at home,if yes he could probably help you. Shop before hand all the necessary things for the baby in order to avoid last minute tensions. Moreover we have friends here in US who could lend a helping hand in times of need. So dont worry and keep in touch. I wish you all the best.

with regards,
Sri

Hi Sri,

Yes, it is going to take a lot of planning and thinking ahead of time.

Thankfully my husband helps even now when my work gets out of control. So I have his complete support. Also we both can take leave when the baby is born. I get upto 2 months and he gets 2 weeks. So like you I am also hoping things will be smooth.

Wish you luck and will keep in touch.

Hi Supriya

That is a good tip about food.

There are quite a few websites that have shopping lists for baby stuff required right after birth and the first few months. Did you find any of them useful?

Thanks for your encouragement.

:)
