My 3yrs old son is extremely intelligent, well behaved, obedient and popular. He is very good looking and knows it well.
The problem with him is that he lives life his way. Although he is never destructive, but refuses to take commands and advises. If advised or scolded, he threatens to shoot us with a gun, although he does nt have gun toys, never watches violence on TV. We husband wife also do nt talk violence even during arguments. Pls help.. Mala Kumar replied. The first thing you need to do is stop making excuses for your child. He is not obedient nor is he well behaved or any of that. If he were the afore mentioned he would not threaten you with a gun. As for his looks someone must keep telling him he is good looking for a 3 year old to even notice. If you live in a joint family and it is not you or your husband spoiling him and turning him into a brat then there must be someone else. How can 3 year old control you? What you need is to look at a rewards, recongnition and punishment program. I am not asking you to beat your child but I am asking you to put your foot down. When he threatens to shoot you with a gun sit him down in a quiet room and ask him who has taught him this. Then tell him you are his parents and if he does not have parents how will he survive? Yes it is very adult but seeing as you did not train your child from day one you need a very very strong approach. Ask him to start doing small chores like his homework and picking up toys and his glass or plate after eating. If he does it praise him if he does not then do not reward him stop buying toys treats etc. It is harsh but if you dont control your kid now you will end up with a adult who will take you and your husband for a ride.
