I have been a silent reader of this board. My baby is now seven and a half months old and I started leaving her with a babysitter since she was four months old. I actually put an ad. in an Indian newspaper and did not get any response. If you live in a place where there are a lot of Indians locally, here is a good idea.. Just type up or write a 'Babysitter wanted' post in a paper and post it in your local Indian grocery store. I got several responses that way. Look for a person who lives locally and who can come and take care of your baby at your home. That way, your baby won't have trouble adjusting to the new place, place to sleep etc. And also, if the baby goes to somebody's house, you know that the babysitter would be doing at least some chores in her house but if the babysitter is at your home, she can give her one hundred percent time just for your baby. I got my babysitter by putting the ad at my local Indian store and so far she has been great with her. My baby seems so happy as soon as the babysitter comes home and wouldn't come to me when she is around. I am happy about it and have a peace of mind when I am at work. Have the babysitter start at least a week before you start work. Make sure you visit the babysitter's house before you make the decision. You will get an idea about her cleanliness from the house. If you take your baby to the babysitter's house for the visit, you can also watch how she handles the baby. Make sure her kids are around 13 years and older so that they can be at their home alone without the parent. Good luck with your search for babysitter.
