Hi

I got tamarind from India eventhough it was tightly packed I see lot of worms inside them. Does anyone know how to clean and avoid the worms.

Thanks

As you there are worms in the tamraind I would suggest to throw it. But the next time you get whole tamrind remove the seeds from the tamrind and put salt in it and mix it well. Make small tamrind balls put it in container and use it as and when required as it lasts for months.

for many other things that get spoiled like these, i hv heard abt tips and tricks to clean the worms. But i always hv 1 qs. There might be some dead worms, some eggs, some babies of worms (live or dead), their excretions .... so when we follow those tips to clean out worms, are we reallt sure that the contents are really clean?

when there are many worms, i prefer to throw it off, why take chances for little money?

eg for raw Rice, when there are worms/small insects, my MIL says keep it dipped in water for some time and insects will come to water's surface. It actually happens too ... but for the \" skins of worms\" or other things i mentioned above, i still avoid using that rice.
