Due Date Club February 2005:Breastfeeding issues...help

Hi moms,

I am breastfeeding though i feel my supply is reducing and my little one is crying most of the time searching for milk even after I feed, but if I keep him on the breast he happily sucks, though I don't hear him swallow, and goes to sleep...so I am confused if he is not having sufficient milk or is using my breast as his pacifier to go to sleep.
Yesterday i pumped some milk to see the quantity my kiddo might be getting. it's around 2-3 oz both breast combined...any idea how much a new born consume in one go? Also my little one does not latch well on my right breat which is such a battle between us everytime I try him on there..the milk supply is also less there, so I have to pump more I guess.
Anyone storing breast milk yet? please advise as to how you are storing...I have just used mine within 48 hrs by keeping in the fridge.
Please do reply...I am concerned about the feeding schedule and how to increase supply...and reduce crying.

Love,
Tweetie

Hey Girl, dont worry. At this stage both baby and you have to get used to each other. To increase the breast milk flow you need to eat alot of methi....the green leafy vegetable!!

Also about the sucking.....the psychological need of newborns is met by sucking so if your baby is not crying and just wants to suck and go to sleep there is no need to panic. Of course that shouldnt become the sole means by which he goes to sleep!!

You are storing EBM correctly.....only dont bring the milk to room temp. and then refridgerate. Discard it. Also 2hourly feeding of about 15-20 ml is considered pretty okay, I think. Will get back to you definitely on that part, unless I deliver first!!!!

Till then take care and relax.

Hi Tweetie,
2-3 Oz milk is sufficient for new born. Milk flow will increase according to baby needs. If you want to increase milk flow try expressing more.Eat milk daliya ,and sabudana, once or twice a day to increase breast milk. There are some milk formula available for breast feeding mothers , if home food doesn't help then try them also, heard they are effective.

Message your breast a little before feeding that will make it soft and try to increase nipple size by hand ,will be easier for baby to latch. If your breast is too hard , try to express litle milk by hand or by pump to make it soft.
I also had same problem for baby to latch on , then i tried this method , and it works.

Best of luck
Alka
