Hi Friends,
With Joy I share the good news of the arrival of our Son Jonathan Santhosh on 26th Jan 2005 (36 weeks 3 days along my pregnancy journey). He weighed 6 lbs 5 oz, and was 20 inches long.
Here is my brief birth story.
On 25th morning, I lost my mucous plug, and then went for my routine 2 week check, when the Doctor told me that I was 2 cm dilated and 50% effaced.
25th evening, I started getting regular contractions, but 15 min apart...which then reduced to 10, 5, by midnight but then it wasn't too regular after that...
25th night I slept thro the contractions, not timing them...I was too lazy!!
26th morning when I timed them they were 7, then 5 min and progressed to 3 cm apart...we
knew we had to go the hospital since the contractions were stronger too...
when we reached the hospital at 9 am I was around 5 cm dilated and still 50% effaced. So
they admitted me.
I had decided to give it a try without the epidural as long as I can... I reached 7 cm
without any problem ie I could bear the pain.
But all along the baby was high up...which was a hurdle...baby was NOT moving down. At this
point the Doctor broke the waters, hoping the process to move faster.
The next couple of hours was painful, and all that I had progressed was 1 more cm, ie 8 cm
dilation and the baby was still way high up, which made the internal examination
excrutiatinly painful.
Then they started pitocin to increase the contractions...still no effect...I could bear the pain...but unfortunately the baby was still way high up and I hadn't dilated any further.
At this point I decided to take the epidural mainly because I was tired to ppractising my
breathing techniques and was getting exhausted...
It was such a relief after the epidural and it got me really drowsy...so slept for quite
some time...after a while when the doc checked, I had just progressed 1 more cm ie to 9 cm
with the baby still way up...which was confusing to the doctors. At this point we noticed
that the contractions weren't getting stronger depsite the pitocin. Also the baby's heart
rate was going down with each contraction...so due to reducing intensity of contractions, no
progress in dilation, decreasing fetal heart rate, they decided to do and emergency
C-section.
Our joy arrived at 10:12 pm to bring the smile back to my face :)
I was to be discharged on friday...but unfortunatly, I didn't have any bowel movement after the operation...due to the failure of the intestines to regain their peristaltic movements
after the C-section...so basically my stomach got bloated real huge and I was having bad
PAIN...anyway to cut the long story short and avoid the gross details, they got me back and
functioning, and I was discharged on Monday. Right now my legs are all swollen up huge due
to the IV and there is a lot of water retention in my body...so I am not really able to
gauge the weight I have lost during delivery.
Not sure as to when I can start exercising, my tummy looks like I am 5 months carrying, and
feels like a water baloon :( but before that i need to recuperate and get adjusted to this big happy change in our lives...sleepless nights have already set in!
Thanks to one & all who helped me out :) good luck to all expectant moms!!!!!!
happy mom tweetie :)
