My son started on solids at the age of 4 months with thin khicdi, then graduated to dalia, thick khicdi with vegetables, nachni. at the age of 6 months he suddenly stopped eating.... after a lot of trials.... we now give him everything we eat... only less masalas, no chillies... less salt....cooked well and mashed.....
he has dalia with fruit and milk in the morning, chappati soaked in dal for lunch or nachni or upma with ghee, Milk in the evening and then rice with vegetables and dahi for dinner. my son never accepted the bottle and doesnt like milk so we give him dahi, butter which he loves. you could try variation in your child s diet . make sure that they drink a lot of water it is good for digestion . also give them raw vegetables like carrots, cucumber beans which they can chew on... it helps with their teeth and also lets them get used to chewing. best of luck

The most nutrituos food you can offer to your baby is home made and fresh food. Foods like Cerelac etc are -DEAD FOOD and I have never put my baby on to them. My baby started solids at the age of 51/2 mths and initially it was khichdi with all veggies and dal boiled and pureed-and by 11 mths I even stopped pureeing the khichdi and just smash big chunks with a spoon. Also add some ghee/butter to the khichdi !and upma is a good idea too -It changes the taste for the baby! After she was a year old I started off with soaking a roti/paratha in the babys veggies-it makes a very welcome change in taste for the baby! - So please leave the Cerelac and Fad foods behind and stick with fresh foods for your kids and watch them gain weight. My daughter is 16 months old now but has never liked cereals even if I offered them to her.

At 6 mths, babies need cereal intake - ideally rice. One can try giving khicchidi with ghee or butter, rice powder made in porridge form. Also nutritous is Ragi powderNachni- can be given as porridge, added to khicchidi.
As far as possible, try and avoid readymade cereals. Nothing to substitute for fresh cooked food. Also, continue breast feeding Ur child for about 2-3 times during an entire day 24 hrs upto atleast 1 yr and ideally 18-24 mths
Also check with Ur pedac. about the requirement of iron supplements

Anita Patel, My daugher is of the same age. You can give your baby any food that is cooked soft and easy for your baby to eat like vegetables, fruit, rice and even chapathi. My daughter refused to eat baby food and did very well with regular food that we eat daily. Of course do not force just offer the food whenever the baby is hungry on regular times every day.

Bindu,

It is quite natural for some babies to lose weight when they start on solids. Take her to your doctor and make sure your baby weight and development is normal for its age. Please do not get carried away by what others say. I am not sure if you can offer orange juice to a baby since it is too acidic. My doc advised me not to offer any citrus fruit to my baby till she was 1 year. Talk to your doctor and trust your instincts.

Hi , Read about your concern. My son is 7 months old . The last time I took him to the doctor he also had not gained too much weight . The doctor told me that I should be concentrating more on milk than on solid foods . So i decided to make all his solid foods in milk & also continue nursing him as often as possible .I hope this helps . Good luck .
