Hi, i belong to a family of brahmins. I am 16years old, and i have not undergone upanayanam yet and my family is forcing to do now.they are forcing me to get it done with all the rituals including shaving head with kudumi/pilaka, and ear piercing, and also with the condition that i have to keep the pilaka and shave head regularly in future. i cannot think of facing my friends and collage with a pilaka and shaved head and earrings.can any one help me who has faced the same. and share your experiance before and after upanayanam how people used to react with your new look and what was the sutiation during the ceremony so that i can prepare myself. See you will have to do it some day or other to it is better to get it done now as since you are young you have long vacations in which you can shave your head and by the time the vacation ends your hair will grow fair enough. NN replied. See pavan there is nothing weird in shaving your head as everyone has to do it one day or another. And its not like your hair won't grow back if you shave it now. It is better to do Upanayanam at this age only because it has been too late for you to do it.you have to do it any cost and you cannot escape from it.Later in twenty's you cannot do it.It would be hard for you to do it. gaurav replied. after upanayana u will feel like ur head is lighter. your friends will laugh on u fr somedays but they will stop teasing you after some days as they will also know it is the ritual. one more you have to wear a thread around your shoulder. ceremony will go smoothly.
