Due Date Club March 2007:BF support thread -week 1

Name: hello

Hi March mommies

This thread is for bf support, advice and suggestion for all bfing moms.
Feel free to lurk, comment and suggest.

To start with ,I had bf problems right from day one.My LO had jaundice and was ffed for 10 days and latching problems started and there was mess everywhere. After seeing the l/c at the hospital,Ive started taking fenugreek and started to feed her often, pump 8x a times an still give her formula. Now my supply has incresed a bit and I still give her pumped milk.
The problem is ,she does not latch on properly. There is pain everytime I try to feed her and so I prefer pumping and giving her the bottle.
At the l/c office the latch was great ,but at home its not working well.I tried using the medela nipple shield(24mm),but they are kinda too big for her mouth and she chokes all over.
Is there a better shiled that' s available?

Hi All,

My son latches and feeds well. But the problem is that he gets cranky mostly in the evenings and refuses to be fed. We all can make out from his cry that he is hungry. He does a few sucks and cries..as if he is desperately hungry and there is very little milk. When I press my nipples and check I do see drops of milk coming out, but he seems to be unhappy with the flow. So I feed him formula during that time and he is very happy and satisfied. And the next feed he takes from me after 2 hours or so. So I have been giving him formula twice a day for the past 7 days.

I recently got a breast pump and finding no time to pump as he is BF most of the day and when he is asleep I too feel sleepy. Can I pump immediately after he feeds? I was told that I can pump every 2/3 hours and store the milk in the refrigerator. Do you guys then bring the milk to room temp and then feed the baby?

My mom says that lot of babies grow up drinking BM and formula. Infact me and my brother were brought up that way. Any inputs on this?

Regards,
AVB
