This is the only society in the world that treats its women as a burden.Our society thinks that the man is taking care of his wife, feeding and clothing her, so he and his family needs to be PAID(compensated) in the form of dowry. But in true sense a women marries a man, takes care of him, takes care of all his needs, bears children for him, gives him his own family and still she is treated worse than an animal. SHE is the one who should be paid for doing so much. Just educating girls wont solve the problem. I know of girls who are Doctors and Engineers but still their parents were asked to give dowries, sometimes even in love marriages. But if you are well educated and can support yourself please don't give in. Sometimes some parents give dowries to show off their love for their daughters. They don't realise that they are making it more difficult for other women and their parents.

Dowry is a old practice which is continuing past many years. The girl's parents used to give a free will gifts to the girl when she gets married. As the days passed by the dowry is becoming a major issue between the two familes and this issue is becoming a major reason for not establishing proper relationship between the couple who get married. All because of "dowry" which seems to be a very big problem for people in India, why is there any action being taken ? The answer to this is that , girls are still not able to judge their own life's. They are not putting an end to dowry. If all girls aim in not giving dowry to guys then i feel that this issue will subside to some extent. Educated girls can start this because we are seeing the socitey where mnay innocent girls are being burnt to death! What can we do for this ?? The girls parents will put that in front of the court for jutice! Then what ? will this stop the issue ? No , each person has thier own way of harrashment. We have to use our brains. We need to think with brain, and not with heart. There are so many guys who are not willing to take dowry. Even such guys can help in solving this issue. If the girl is having a good charecter and is educated.....then i feel she will be capable enuf to be a good daugter-in-law as well as will carry her responsibilities in a very efficient manner

Education is important for a girl but this is not only to fight with dowry , this is for all round development of a girl like all other human being. Maximum of us say that educate the daughters other wise she will be in great trouble after marriage. But why to take help of education to get rid from it?If we say that then what will happen to the poor illiterate married women of rural areas? They have to tolerate everything as they are illiterate? We should try to destroy it from the root not to divert the line. Dowry harassment happens to any woman , literate or illiterate, the only way to destroy it, is by protesting together and disclose all kind of dowry harassment by the in-laws instead of tolerating as long as possible. The lesson should teach to those in-laws and the husbands who torture a daughter-in –law, a wife for dowry other wise this trend will never finish.

Married at 20, with a bachelors degree from a reputed college . Pursuing her masters degree and pregnant with ... what is to be the family's only male child for the next decade . What more had she to offfer ? That would be the typical question posed by any onlooker. But the sacrificial goat got up the minute she saw a light in the kitchen , helped out with all the cooking before rushing off to a full day at college . getting back in the evening to more house work . What did she get in return ? after every one bathed in hot water , she was asked 'you don't need hot water do you?' what could she say , she could not demand it. Modernoity calls her stupid and just adjusting . But kindness would call it torture . A sterotypical senario of what happens to the young married girl . The only way out is education or she'll be the house mais , the baby sitter . PURE EXPLOITATION . My advice educate your girls and land them a job before they get maried and all of you will be much happier . This is what happebed to me and I am giving my child the best education that money can buy , only hpoing to make her self sufficent .

I do agree that education is a must for a girl. I feel education is a must for a human being whether a boy or girl. Who are we to discriminate that a girl should be educated so that she would not be shunned if she does not bring a dowry. It is time we put things in the right places. Education is not an answer to dowry. Education is a right that anybody should demand from the society to live a prideful life. Doing a job or not is a personal consideration. Dowry is a social evil existing only in some societies, where irrationalities dominates. An Indian male should be rational enough to shun dowry, because it is nothing but an alm in the garb of gift. The wife works for him tirelessly from the very first day, she arrives in his house yet she is not given the respect she should command. Males should think and rethink.
