dowry is the most persisting promblem in the indian society.no matter how much we progress in diferent feilds there seems to be no freedom from dowry.it is not a problem restricted to the uneducated or the downtrodden.even the highly educated are victims to it.most of the girls are mortally scared of marriage.this could be the reason behind abanding many new born girls in hospitals etc.i think along with girls, boys should also be educated about dowry in their early years. it would be helpful if goverment added syallbus about dowry in the text books

This is the only society in the world that treats its women as a burden.Our society thinks that the man is taking care of his wife, feeding and clothing her, so he and his family needs to be PAID(compensated) in the form of dowry. But in true sense a women marries a man, takes care of him, takes care of all his needs, bears children for him, gives him his own family and still she is treated worse than an animal. SHE is the one who should be paid for doing so much. Just educating girls wont solve the problem. I know of girls who are Doctors and Engineers but still their parents were asked to give dowries, sometimes even in love marriages. Education is important for a girl but this is not only to fight with dowry , this is for all round development of a girl like all other human being. Maximum of us say that educate the daughters other wise she will be in great trouble after marriage. But why to take help of education to get rid from it?If we say that then what will happen to the poor illiterate married women of rural areas? They have to tolerate everything as they are illiterate? Married at 20, with a bachelors degree from a reputed college . Pursuing her masters degree and pregnant with ... what is to be the family's only male child for the next decade . What more had she to offfer ? That would be the typical question posed by any onlooker. But the sacrificial goat got up the minute she saw a light in the kitchen , helped out with all the cooking before rushing off to a full day at college . getting back in the evening to more house work . What did she get in return ? after every one bathed in hot water , she was asked 'you don't need hot water do you?' what could she say , she could not demand it. Modernoity calls her stupid and just adjusting . But kindness would call it torture . A sterotypical senario of what happens to the young married girl . The only way out is education or she'll be the house mais , the baby sitter . PURE EXPLOITATION . My advice educate your girls and land them a job before they get maried and all of you will be much happier . This is what happebed to me and I am giving my child the best education that money can buy , only hpoing to make her self sufficent .

I do agree that education is a must for a girl. I feel education is a must for a human being whether a boy or girl. Who are we to discriminate that a girl should be educated so that she would not be shunned if she does not bring a dowry. It is time we put things in the right places. Education is not an answer to dowry. Education is a right that anybody should demand from the society to live a prideful life. Doing a job or not is a personal consideration.
