Planning to go abroad for tour, study or business? Well, find out how to make U.S. visa and reach your destination.

People from foreign countries visit the United States of America for various reasons. Some want to be the citizens of U.S.A while others want to stay there for a short duration. If you are someone staying outside U.S. then you will need the U.S. visa to get entry into the country. But mere visa is not enough to enter the United States. Your U.S. visa signifies that you are eligible to enter the country as U.S. consular officer at an American Embassy or Consulate has approved your application. Immigration officer will further decide if you can stay in U.S. and for how long.

Types of Visa

Immigrant visas are for those who want to stay in U.S. on permanent basis. Non immigrant visas are for people who do not want to be the citizens of U.S. but want to stay there for particular period of time. People seek non immigrant visas for various purposes like tourism, medical treatment, business, temporary work or study.

Contacting U.S. Embassy or Consulate

Get in touch with the nearest U.S. Embassy or Consulate and fix an appointment. You can make an appointment via telephone, mail or in person. You may take some time to get an appointment. Be patient. Get started with your visa application procedure as soon as you make your travel plans. Enquire about visa application fees.

Documents and papers

After visiting the nearest U.S. Embassy or Consulate make sure that you have all the needed documents. Following is the list of documentation you will require to get your U.S. visa done.

  • A valid passport

  • Documentations obtained from U.S. Embassy or Consulate

  • Other documents giving details about your financial status, reason to travel, employment status, etc.

  • Consular officer may ask for more documents according to his requirement.
Once you have gathered all the required documents, you will submit the documents to the U.S. Embassy or Consulate. A counselor officer will review you application and will issue your passport within a few weeks. Your application for U.S. visa can be accepted or rejected according to the U.S. visa policies. Your visa application may require additional reviews for security reasons. Recently, many countries including U.S. have changed and updated their visa policies to secure citizens and visitors.

Obtaining immigration stamp

U.S. is a free country and is most welcoming people from other countries who want to visit, study or do business in the United States. Your U.S. visa permits you to travel from your country to a port of entry in the US. After landing on the U.S. airport authorities will recheck and verify your documents. A U.S. official may interview you regarding the verification. Once you got all your paper verified, you will receive an immigration stamp.

Visa policies

As visa policies keep changing, you can search online for the current visa policies and rules. These policies can vary according to the current situation and circumstances in your country. The procedure to apply for U.S. visa may differ from one local area to other. If you are applying for U.S. visa to study in United States then you have to contact U.S. academic institution or exchange program.

Getting visa done could sound little tedious. But when you will go step by step, it is not that hard. Some dream of going to U.S. and live an affluent life, some desire to get education abroad and some long for getting U.S. citizenship. Whatever is the reason, there are various kinds of visas available but of course you have to be eligible to get a visa. So all the best for your journey, hope you will get your visa soon.
