Arignar Anna Zoological Park

Located at Vandalur, which is 30 kilometres from Chennai City, Anna Zoological Park is considered to be one of the biggest in South-East Asia. Here most wildlife lives in large areas surrounded by moats. This provides for a more natural environment. There are more than 170 species of mammals, birds, and reptiles at the zoo. There are battery operated trains that take visitors around key locations in the zoo if they do not want to do walk.

Dakshinachitra

Dakshinachitra is a cross-cultural living museum, which showcases a mixture of artisans working and exhibits to see. It is located on the East Coast Road at Muttukadu—21 kilometres south of Chennai. Literally translated, Dakshinachitra means 'a picture of the South', and this is exactly what this unique establishment presents. Dakshinachitra was established to promote handicrafts from South Indian States like Tamil Nadu and Kerala and also to highlight the lifestyle and culture of these states. It comprises a number of mock houses in a village theme. Each house is built to imitate a traditional house and houses traditional elements such as pottery or musical instruments. Each house is thus a small museum showcasing the traditional life of each region. This village is not just a museum, but also a place where tourists can observe handicrafts being made and buy them.

Marina Beach

Marina Beach is one of India's longest beaches, stretching for about 13 kilometres. The Marina beach connects Fort St. George with Santhome, with a 5-kilometre stretch. An ideal way to end a day of touring Chennai is by taking in the cool sea breeze here. On the Marina, you will also find the Victory War Memorial at Anna Park, commemorating lives lost in World Wars I and II. Other notable structures nearby include the Anna Samadhi dedicated to C N Annadurai, former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.

Kapaleeshwarar Temple

Kapaleeshwarar Temple is one of the renowned temples of Lord Shiva in Chennai city of Tamil Nadu. This temple is situated in Mylapore. Goddess Parvati, wife of Lord Shiva is also worshipped in this temple as Goddess Karpagambal. She is worshiped as ‘The Goddess of the Wish-Yielding Tree’. It is an ancient temple built in 7th century CE. It has a beautiful eye-pleasing Dravidian architecture. The distance between Mylapore station and this temple is just 13 kilometres. The best time to visit this place is during mid April when Arubathimooval festival is celebrated in this temple.

Government Museum

The renowned museum in Chennai is also known as Madras museum. Government museum is situated in Egmore. It is very close from Egmore railway station. The distance between Egmore railway station and the museum is 3 kms. It is one of the oldest museums in India. Its remarkable archaeological and numismatic collection is worth viewing. It is also rich in collection of Roman antiques. The Colossal Museum Theatre and The National Art Gallery are the part of this museum. The National Art Gallery is well known for showcasing the works of greatest painters of India like Raja Ravi Varma.

Santhome Cathedral

Santhome Cathedral is also popular as St. Thomas Cathedral Basilica or National Shrine of Saint Thomas. It is a Roman Catholic basilica located in Santhome in Chennai. The Portuguese explorers constructed it in 16th century over the tomb of Saint Thomas. British rulers then rebuilt it as a church and gave it a status of Cathedral. It was designed by British architects during 19th century in a Neo-Gothic style. It is very close from Mylapore station.

Edward Elliot’s Beach

Edward Elliot’s Beach is named after a person who was once a police superintendent and chief magistrate. Karl Schmidt Memorial is a remarkable memorial built in the memory of a Dutch sailor who gave-up his life for saving others from drowning. It is a safe and a well maintained beach at which tourist can pay a visit to have a wonderful time. This place is good for people who want to seek peace as they will love the tranquillity and calmness that will be experienced after visiting this beach. This beach is towards the south of Marina beach and forms its end point. So, if you are planning to visit Marina beach, you must surely visit this beach too. The popular Velankanni Church and Temple of Ashtalakshmi Kovil are the nearby tourist spots to visit.

nice place to visit but the only problem is that it is hot and humid there so not a good choice to travel during day time.
