Tips to Prevent Stubborn Behaviour in Children

Tips to Prevent Stubborn Behaviour in Children
Stubborn behaviour can be handled smartly by parents if they follow certain parenting techniques. Read on to find tips to prevent stubborn behaviour in children.

Dealing with stubborn behaviour is always frustrating and disturbing. It can simply ruin a joyful day and make the daily task a burden. When it comes to children, what makes them stubborn? No child is born with stubbornness or any negative attitude. Stubborn attitude gets developed in children due to certain systems followed by the parents.
Stubborn behaviour is a common problem among teenagers, and toddlers, where the parents are required to develop special skills to deal with such kids. When a child is angry and behaving in negative ways, parents must understand the bad effects and act accordingly. There are some techniques to convince the children and evade such a bad trait.

Ways to Prevent Stubbornness in Children

Below are some of the tips to divert attention of children in order to avoid stressful situations.

1. Stop Arguing with a Stubborn Child

When there is a quarrel at home with children, first thing to be followed is stop arguing with them. Arguments will always make the situation worse and can never give a positive ending. Children are not aware of the right behaviours which can create conflicts in the initial stage. Most of the parents shout at them in public or in front of others which is not right. Better explain what has to be done in such a situation and next time that would be helpful

2. Avoid Stressful Atmosphere at Home

Home must not be a place of disagreement, unhappiness, and anxiety. Every child should be happy and comfortable at home. There are many parents who are giving more importance to their personal and official work, parties, clubs and guests thereby ignoring children. Listen to their talks, suggestions, imaginations and respond to them in a positive manner. Allowing them to speak and share their feelings results in a peaceful atmosphere at home.

3. Avoid Saying “No”

When there is an expectation for the children and the answer is “No”, better do not say an immediate no to them. Instead, explain why it is not to be done, what are the impacts of saying yes and give a better option that makes them satisfied. For example, if a child wants to play during exams, allow her to play for some time and later request to sit for study.

4. Use Simple Language

Use simple language and make the conversation easy when there is a chat or discussions with children.

5. Teach “Give and Take” policy

Make the children aware that they must scarify a few things when expecting to get something from others which in turn teach them that demands can hold some consequences. For example, if the kid is not interested to share the toys with other children, he or she will also not get a chance to play with other’s toys. This will make them understand the importance of sharing and compromising where necessary in many cases in their life

6. Reward Your Children

When you find that children are behaving in a positive manner or good behaviour in them, praise them with some rewards like chocolates, preparing favourite dishes, money for their piggy bank etc. This would really help to control their stubbornness as they will feel to get more rewards for good habits. None of the kid denies getting rewards, moreover praising is a tool for their success.

7. Teach Discipline Instead of Punishing

Most of the parents get frustrated with stubborn kids and they start to show their negative face by punishing. This is not the right way to treat the stubborn children. A parent’s duty is to raise a well-disciplined child and not to move the entire day just by managing their arrogant behaviour. Try to solve the problems and provide them right guidance like what to do and what not to do.
Parents must be the role model for the children as they learn many things from their activities. Hence, both mom and dad are responsible for every kid’s attitude. Offer great support all the time and plan accordingly to get rid of stubbornness.
