Smartphones can harm the parent-child bonding to a greater extent. Read on to learn how your smartphone is affecting parenting.

There is a lot of buzz around linking smartphone and bad parenting. Do you know there are ways in which your use of smartphone is affecting your child?

All parents know that proper nutrition and education are important for children’s proper and overall development. Staying glued to the smartphone could damage parent-child bond as well. Here is what you should know about how smartphones affect parenting.

1. Children Miss out Learning Communication Skills

Young kids need face to face interaction and they learn a lot during the first few years of their lives from parents and people around them. The more you talk to your child, the closer she gets to you and learns lot of words and language as well. The performance of children in school also improves.

2. Multitasking is Harmful

Doing one thing at a time help parents be more purposeful and reduce anxiety making them be present in their children’s lives.

3. Smartphones Emit Radiations

More and more researches show a relation of smartphone and cancer. These smartphones emit harmful radiations. So, expecting mothers should be more careful while carrying smartphone in their pocket.

4. Children Get Psychologically Affected

It is observed that parents using smartphone have children lacking motivation, feeling of guilt, selfishness and sense of isolation. Also, when parents post their kid’s development on social media, they might begin to judge their talents and appearances based on their social media presence.

5. Smartphone Interferes Bonding Opportunities

Children need close relationships with their parents for optimal brain development as well as positive relationship skills which would help them succeed in life.

6. Interference in Learning Real World Skills

Children remember spending time and learning things from their parents. They forget most of the things while watching them on internet. To help our children thrive in different situations it is important to help them learn real life skills.

7. Smartphones Distract Parents

Using smartphones can be very distracting and one does not know how much time gets spent on it in unplanned way. This might make you miss essential work related to your child’s health or development.

8. Feeling of Anxiety and Depression Gets Triggered

When parents use their smartphones in front of children, they convey the message that smartphones are important for them than their kids. Children feel neglected which affects their behaviour and tendency towards life and living.

9. Responding Negatively to Kids

After receiving bad news or work related emails, parents respond negatively to kids. Sometimes they react adversely because their kid tried to distract them away from their phones.

10. Technology Can be Draining

Parents lead a hectic life today and balancing family life with work makes them exhausted by the end of the day. Adding to this is the responsibility of responding to friends on social media which result in draining one emotionally and physically further. Also, kids require a lot of time and attention. Multitasking among all the aspects might lead to excessive load on today’s parents which is harmful for physical and mental health.

Parents do have their own lives with their friends and spending time on social media. Also, nursery rhymes and fairy tiles might be far less interesting than Instagram posts, but you know that your child’s long term success depends on them. So, just as you may realize the impact of smoking on kids, the impact of tapping fingers continuously on phone can also be understood. Beware of the risks and raise a generation that is more attached to their parents.
