10 Signs that You Are Truly an Indian Parent

Certain features of Indian parents make them stand out from other parents. Let us have a look at the typical characteristics of truly Indian parents.

Parenthood is a challenge, but Indians accept it in their own way. Indian parents have a typical style of raising their kids – the style that can baffle the parents of the rest of the world. Here are the 10 signs that you are truly an Indian parent.

1. You Call Your Children by Nickname in front of Public

Your kids studied, they went to college, they got a job or they are doing business, they are travelling to places, they maybe any big shot – but they are still your “Chintu”, “Raja”, “Chhotu”, “Bantu”, etc. You do not feel embarrassed to call them openly in public by their nicknames.

2. Your First Question: “What You Had for Lunch or Dinner?”

When your kids are away from you, the first question you ask when you call them is: “What you had for lunch/dinner?” The most important concern of Indian parents is food. If you have had your food nicely, then you can discuss other things.

3. You Are Overprotective

You never had problems fighting with the teacher in the parent-teacher meeting for your kids. You do not hesitate to hold your kids’ hands when they are crossing the road even when they are in their 30s. Yes, you are overprotective, you are so Indian!

4. You Can Cook Better than Any Restaurant

The home food – nothing beats it! Even if your kids take you to a 5-star restaurant to surprise you on your birthday, the second thing you will say after the fake appreciation: “I would have cooked a better meal than this, and that would have cost much less than what you are going to spend here.”

5. You Are Worried About the Society

Anything your kids decide to do which may seem logical and valid for them and also you, but unpleasant for the society, then you panic. If you are worried what will other family members or the neighbours or your friends will say about your kids, then you are truly an Indian parent.

6. You Do Not  Allow Your Kids to Cut Nails on a Thursday or Saturday

You have a list of superstitions that are being passed as a legacy from generation to generation, and no one questioned about their significance. So you do not allow your kids to eat during an eclipse, cut nails on a Thursday, eat non-veg on a Saturday, and it follows.

7. You Have an Age Limit for Your Children’s Marriage

You have already set a limit of age for your children to get married by then. You are also the matrimony expert, who never thinks twice while talking about their kid’s skills to strangers, just to find a match you are looking for.

8. You Love to Feed

You must be nagging not only your kids, but your kids’ friends to eat. You surely love feeding people who walk into your house, and the appreciation of how well you cooked makes you feel “The Boss”. But even sometimes you end of forcing feeding your kids’ friends something that they do not like to eat.

9. Unparallel Praising

You do not mind praising your kids to the sky in front of relatives, friends, and colleagues. Being an Indian parent, you have the knack of overdoing it in fact. It may be embarrassing for your kids, but it is very important for you.

10. You Force Your Kids to Touch Elders’ Feet

Whether your kids want or not, they have to touch their elders’ feet under your supervision. If you are not around, you will not forget to ask if they have done it. You do not even mind asking them to do that at weddings and other family occasions.

No matter how ridiculous and illogical you become – but you are loved the most. Your children can do anything for you and never stand a single word against you. Your unconditional love is never overlooked – because your kids know you are truly an Indian parent!
