Every parent is going through one type of stress or another. The father has to deal with his professional problems and also his boss and seniors in the office. If the mother is working she has to deal with both household and official problems. There is definitely lot of stress and this is the time when parents shred their stressful mood on their children by yelling and scolding for minor matters. Today, most of the parents have to deal with lot of stress and so there is need for parenting tips and anger management course for the parents more than the kids. There are times when we do get angry because of some genuine reason, but instead of yelling, shouting or scolding, things can turn a better way if dealt with calmly.
Tips to Avoid Removing your Stress on Children
Here is how you can avoid removing stress on children.
Wait Calmly or Leave the Place
If you find that you are not able to control your anger, either leave the place or try to calm yourself in some different way. You can do whatever it helps you cool down. You can countdown from ten or twenty or walk to your bedroom or simply sit and try to calm yourself.
Write it Down
If you are angry and feel that talking can worsen the situation, write down your anger points and express your feelings in writing. If your child is old enough, he will understand and try to avoid doing things that hurts you. And if the child is very small, you save yourself from making the child feel terrible.
Make it “I” And not “You”
When you are angry or do not like anything that your child has done, avoid pointing his mistakes. Rather try to make it and point yourself and talk to him in a different tone. For example, if your child is not trying to keep his room tidy and managed, instead of saying, “You do not put things properly and so on so forth”, you can say, “I get tired picking up things and arranging your room the whole day”. Your child will get the message.
Stay in the Present Moment
When your child has made you angry, do not blame him for the mistakes and mischievous behaviour that he has done in the past.
Do Not Shred Your Stress on Your Child
If you are stressful and frustrated with your official tension, do not shred your strain and aggravation on your child. This will spoil your parenting and ruin your achievements regarding your relationship with your child.
Recognise the Exact Problem
When you get angry on your kids, find out whether you are angry because of the messy room or the child’s behaviour or is it due to your personal stress? Are you feeling overwhelmed at work? If this is the reason, do not transfer your negative feelings to your children.
You can evaluate your thoughts and place them in perspective. Try to evolve a behaviour that reflects rational and clam parental response. If you are unable to handle your stress and anger, take a break or take professional advice. This will help you lead a better life and have good relationship with your kids and spouse as well.
