Powerful Phrases Parents Can Use When Children Don't Listen

Powerful Phrases Parents Can Use When Children Don't Listen

Do your children tend to ignore your words of caution? Here are a few powerful phrases parents can use when children don’t listen.

Sometimes children are very difficult to handle. Inspite of countless endeavours you find that they are not listening. You might not need to repeat the statements again and again. Here are some effective ways to get your kids to listen.

Powerful phrases like these will help you:-

“What did I tell you to remember?”

Instead of telling your kids to ‘be careful’ while playing in the garden, you can use the above phrase.
If you tell him the story about how your Aunt had a plant grow in her stomach when she ingested a seed while playing in the mud, your little one is sure to be afraid. Some children love to play in the mud and they put their hand in the mouth after that. Thus, if you will tell them a story about your own childhood and make them listen, they will surely be more careful while playing. Use the above phrase and examples, instead of merely saying – ‘Be careful’!

“Please talk softly!”

Instead of telling children to ‘Keep quiet’ or ‘stop yelling and screaming’ you can use the above phrase which seems more polite and respectful. Children should learn to be nice, caring and polite instead of shouting and bringing the roof down.
If you are out at the mall, and your child creates a tantrum, it is best to ignore the child. However, if he or she is not prepared to listen, you need to talk some sense into the child and also tell them to speak softly otherwise it can affect their throat and they will have a sore voice the next day.

“How are you feeling?”

If you suspect that your child is sick or having fever, but you are not sure, then it is your duty to ask him if he or she is feeling better. Similarly, if children are upset after an argument, they need to calm down and accept their feelings. Do not be rude to them or push them to do anything.
Children will feel better only if you as parents show them respect and care. ‘How are you feeling’ is a better way to address the issue instead of ‘Relax, how can you be upset about something so minor?’

“What do you think can be done?”

Children are often faced with a situation where they find themselves in a fix unable to do anything. For example, they reach school and realize that they left their lunch box or important book at home. You may not be there every time to solve problems for them.
When they are faced with a sticky situation, ask them to breathe slowly and think calmly about what needs to be done. Instead of kids coming and asking you, - it is your turn to ask them what they think can be done. Ask them to use their brain and be practical because Mom or Dad won’t always be around to help.

“Mom loves you so much”

Keep telling kids, how much you love them and care for them. Don’t make them weep unnecessarily. A simple phrase like, ‘Mom loves you a lot’ especially when they are sick can help them feel better. Similarly, saying the above phrase before putting them to bed at night can calm and help them have a great sleep without problems.

“Do you need any help?”

This is also a great phrase to deal with their issues. A teenager might also occasionally need some advice or words from you. Whether or not they accept your help is a different question, but you can always offer your help to kids to show them the importance of mother and father. Sometimes, when they are moody, you can speak to them instead of shouting.
Thus, we can see that we have to tackle children carefully and make them understand in such a way that the phrases stay in their mind. They need to learn to handle their emotions and feelings so you can gauge them better. Sometimes they tend to keep repeating the same mistakes over and over again. Hence, teach kids to listen and tell them in such a way that your words stay with them. Some phrases and sentences make a better impact, which is why they are called ‘Powerful’!

Children can listen only if parents talk to them calmly and with cool mind.
