10 Things You Must Do As a Parent

Every parent has to carry out certain duties and responsibilities without fail to ensure the well being of children. Here are 10 things which every parent must do to raise happy and well rounded kids.

As a parent your ultimate goal is to raise happy, healthy and self sufficient kids. You would want to give her the tools to help her overcome challenges. We all look forward to the day when we can proudly say, "This is my daughter".

Here we have shared 10 things that you must do as a parent. Take a look and see how many of them you are familiar with.

1. Be A Role Model for Your Child

Remember your children idolize you. If you are making unhealthy choices, your children are learning the same. You must be careful about the ways you interact with your partner. You never know when your child shall repeat the similar patterns. Modelling a healthy lifestyle is necessary especially when your kids are around.

2. Help Your Child to Learn Where to Draw a Line

Children must develop a healthy understanding of what falls within acceptable behaviours. Raise examples that show there are boundaries between you two. Not to touch private parts, dressing-up privately, not allowing anyone in bathroom and sleeping separately should be thought in time. Children must be taught to knock doors before opening them. Additionally, you must teach them to communicate their uncomfortable feelings easily. Separation anxieties are common in children; make sure you are not making them feel isolated from you. Your aim is to make your child grow up to an independent adult.

3. Be Your Child’s Support System

Encourage her to handle different issues well. Bullying in school can be a troubling issue that she must learn to handle. Additionally, you must do everything possible for her. Make sure to listen to her and inform the school authorities on time.

4. Encourage Development Of Inner Self

Teach her to be kind, honest, loving and fair. It is more important to develop her inner beauty. However, you should make it clear to her that nobody is perfect and she must not aim to become a perfectionist. Teach her that she should never judge anyone by his outer appearance. You must accept your child with whatever strength and weakness she is born with. This will help her develop self worth and self esteem.

5. Be Nonreactive, Available and Open

If you react, your child will fear about telling the truth. Children tend to lie when they are scared of making wrong decisions. You must expect your child to make mistakes.

6. Understand The Importance Of Family Dinner

A family that eats together stays together. No matter how busy you are, try eating the dinner together. This is the time when you all can share how experiences throughout the day.

7. Help Them Learn Cooking

Cooking is a life skill that will only help her. She will be able to make her own meals when she stays away from home. When she knows the tricks of cooking healthy meals, she stays healthy as well. This shall help her all through her life.

8. Keep Your Children Active

Are you doing things to keep her active all day long? Encourage her to participate in different kinds of sports. The entire family can spend time in different activities during the weekends and holidays. Physical activity shall protect her from lifestyle diseases like heart problems, obesity, and osteoporosis and so on. This will have a positive impact on her mind and health.

9. Limit Fast Foods

Fast foods simply reduce nutritional quality of a meal. Remember kids require more of calcium, vitamins, minerals and fiber during their growing years. Look for healthier options in the menu card even when you are dining out in restaurants. Offer variations of healthy foods at home, so that she develops a liking for them.

10. Cleanliness Is Next To Godliness

Make sure to teach her the hygienic practices to stay healthy. Washing hands before and after a meal and healthy toilet habits are a must from the very beginning.

Parenting is a commitment of a lifetime. Let them know how special they are in your life. Give them the opportunity to spread their wings and fly.
