Week 29: You can Identify Baby

Learn about your baby's development during 29th week of pregnancy and passing phases of your pregnancy. Read on to understand motherhood closely.

You must be eager to know about your baby's development at every stage. Here we have attempted to help you know how your baby is developing during the 29th week of pregnancy.
Your baby seems to have taken up most of the space in your uterus and you can sense his or her restlessness as he or she moves from one side to the other. You can now identify baby’s knee from his or her feet or bottom from his or her head, which incidentally is finally in proportion with the rest of his or her body.
It is quite possible that your baby is still lying with his or her head upturned. Just give your baby a couple of weeks to turn upside down and get more comfortable. He or she will automatically assume the correct position for delivery.
Your baby grows at a rate of about 1cm. this week and measures one foot and three inches or 38cm. over the next seven days. But he or she is fast gaining weight and should weigh around two pounds and four ounces or 1.02kg.

Other Developments in Baby during the 29th Week of Pregnancy

  • Your baby’s brain is now developing all the neurons and the lungs and muscles are also in the process of development.
  • His or her head is growing in size to accommodate his or her brain.
  • He or she has also developed her milk teeth under the gums.
  • He or she can now move his or her eyes inside the socket. With time she shall become more sensitive to light.
  • He or she is also developing a sense of taste. In fact research studies indicate babies develop their preferences and dislike for certain tastes.
  • He or she is still positioned with head up. He or she will get into her birth position in few weeks before delivery.
  • It shall be a wonderful feeling when you find your baby performing somersaults.
  • With passing of time, you shall also experience more kicking and stretching. Be prepared for some of them to take away your breaths.
  • Your baby can hear well than before and is capable of distinguishing between voices and the real noises.
  • You can read stories to your baby right from now, as it shall be one of the best ways you can bond with him or her.

Bodily Changes during 29th Week of Pregnancy

Let us take a look at the bodily changes that you may experience during the 29th Week of pregnancy.

Leaking Breasts

You must be prepared to experience different bodily changes as well during pregnancy. Do not be surprised if you experience leaky breasts in your 3rd trimester. Discharge of colostrums or yellow fluid is precursor of your breast milk. You can notice few drops of it. In case if you notice a heavy flow, you can wear breast pads and not worry about going out again.

Mood Swings and Other Changes

Mood swings, swelling in ankles, joints and face are some other changes that you might experience. These are just passing phases of your pregnancy that shall be completely gone once your baby has arrived. So, do not let these physical and psychological changes effect you.
Pregnancy is the time when you should be relaxed and enjoy all the attention from your partner and friends. You shall certainly get busy looking after your little one, once he or she is born. It is thus the best time to indulge in your interests and hobbies.
In case you have any concerns or are bothered about anything, you can always bring it up to your doctor. He shall diagnose and offer the right solutions to you.

Understand Labour and Delivery

You are still few months away from delivery. However, you can gather information on delivery and labour. This shall help you understand better how your labour proceeds. This way you may feel you have better control over the whole thing. This can be a good way to lessen your concerns and fear of labour. Informed knowledge shall help you cope with the whole process better and you shall feel less vulnerable.
Your baby shall slowly begin to look like a human than a foetus with every passage of a day. She too is gearing up for the labour and is eager to see the world outside. Motherhood is certainly immensely rewarding and it is worth taking the pains that are associated with pregnancy and labour. Enjoy every day of your pregnancy and look forward to ‘the day’.

Dear Valerie, weight gain during pregnancy is not only restricted into water sac & placenta. It is distributed among the followings: baby, expanded uterus, placenta, amniotic fluid, body fluid, increased blood volume, developped breasts tissues and gaining of extra fat & nutrients in mother's body. So don't worry. Everything is going perfectly right!
