Week 10: Development in Week 10

Baby’s development during week 10 of pregnancy will be rapid and you will also be experiencing lot of changes. Learn about the developments in week 10 of pregnancy.

By this week your baby has become a foetus now. It is normal for you to be inquisitive to know about the other developments your baby is undergoing. Here we shall take a look at some of them.

This week sees the completion of the inner part of the baby's ear as the external parts are beginning to make their appearance felt. There is a lot of action taking place in the chest and abdominal cavities as the lungs are under production in the chest and the stomach and intestines are being formed in the abdomen. The kidneys too are moving into place to take up their final positions.

Hey, it looks like the umbilical cord is fully developed, as your blood seems to be circulating along it bonding you with your baby with strong ties of blood.

The brain of the foetus has grown at a tremendous rate over the last four weeks so its head still looks disproportionate to the rest of his little body. But as we said earlier, this is completely normal.

  • The embryonic tail that was there at the end of the spinal cord has now disappeared.
  • The foetus is now in the process of developing his or her bones. You can see the white bones in the ultrasounds.

Change in Your Body in the 10th Week of Pregnancy

Learn about the changes in your body that you can experience by the 10th week of your pregnancy.

Mood Swings

Do you feel others calling you moody these days? Well, blame it on the hormones. Crazy behaviour, mood swings are typical symptoms associated with pregnancy. While some of these are because of the high levels of hormones and some are due to the fact that it is indeed a very emotional time.

Tiredness

Even if you do feel good, you may be tired. You can keep yourself active by taking frequent naps and enjoy good sleep at night and in the afternoons. After all you are nurturing another life in your body, which is real hard work!

Morning Sickness

Morning sickness is a common problem in pregnancy. If you are exercising during pregnancy, you need to keep it light until your nausea subsides.

Stretching of Ligaments

As your body is progressing towards delivery, you are releasing a hormone named Relaxin that helps stretch or loosen your ligaments. You need to have the necessary flexibility to offer room to your growing baby. Your ligaments and muscles shall stretch even further during labour.

Tender Breasts

Your abdomen and breasts may get tender in the initial weeks of pregnancy. You must have necessary undergarments that shall offer you the required supports. However, make sure your bra firmly sets on your breasts without being either too tight or too loose.

Health and Nutrition

It is very important you continue to choose the healthy foods for your daily consumption. It is important you have a 2,000 calorie diet and include major foods mentioned below after consulting your doctor.

  • Eat whole grains food items and brown bread
  • Protein from beans and meat
  • Dairy products and milk
  • Fresh seasonal vegetables and fruits
  • Aches and Pains

Pregnancy pains are another common phenomenon that you must learn to deal with until delivery. As your body has to bear all the additional weights for long, pain in your muscles and joints become a common affair. Light exercises under the supervision of certified trainer can help ease some of your discomforts and pains. Moreover, it is necessary you have strong muscles to be able to deliver your baby easily during labour.

However, make sure to have a talk with your healthcare provider about the kind of exercise that shall be fine for you. You shall attend necessary prenatal fitness sessions under his guidance.
