Week 6: Further Development of Embryo

You will reach the mid of your first trimester as you complete the 6th week of your pregnancy. Find about the changes that you may experience during the 6th week of your pregnancy.

Hey, what is that sticking its neck out? Looks like the baby has a neck. That is not all, it has a brain, a small bump that looks like the beginning of a head with small little indentations that will soon take the shape of the eyes and ears.
You can just about make out the shape of the mouth and jaw to match the makings of the very early stages of the digestive system. This is followed by the formation of the abdominal as well as the chest cavities where the heart is beginning to develop. At this point it looks like a small bulge and consists of just two chambers out of the expected four.
This week also marks the development of the umbilical cord along with the accompanying blood vessels that help connect this precious little one to you. Your baby now has a full-fledged bloodstream that has just about begun to circulate blood. You can now see a hint of the four limbs that have begun to appear in the shape of little buds in their appropriate places.
The bottom half of its body is still undeveloped and tends to look like a tail whereas the formation of the back is much faster than that of the front causing the embryo to look bent like the curve of a half moon. Your baby is now one quarter of an inch or 6mm in size and nobody has guessed that you are pregnant as yet. You have a way to go before you show.
Apart from this, you may also be embarrassed about your mood swings now. However, take yourself easy as your body is now dealing with all the hormones. Mood changes and physical changes are a result of the hormones wreaking havoc.
Look at the brighter side of it, you are pregnant! Thousands of pregnant woman go through these symptoms daily.

Your Prenatal Visits

This is the time when you can go for a pregnancy test at home. You may also confirm the news from your doctor. If you are yet to visit your doctor, make sure to schedule an appointment as early as possible. Some of the vital tests that you may be asked to carry out are as follows:
  • Pap smear test
  • Blood test
  • Urine test for presence of protein, bacterial infection, white and red blood cells and glucose.
  • Test of the pelvic area.
  • Test to see if you are suffering from urinary tract infection.
  • Rh factor test
  • Test for iron deficiency.
These tests shall ensure good health of yours as well as your baby's. Make sure to be honest while talking about your health ailments and family history. Your doctor may also ask if you have a habit of smoking, drinking or if you are dependent on any king of drug. Hiding any information will only mislead your doctor. You may be asked to go for an ultrasound scan once your pregnancy has been confirmed to rule out any chances of ectopic pregnancy.

Pregnancy Symptoms during 6th Week of Pregnancy

Your pregnancy hormones are very active now. Your bladder and uterus too are adapting to the changes that are occurring in your body due to pregnancy. Your uterus will being to expand in order to provide space for your baby to grow.
Here are discussed some of the pregnancy symptoms that you can expect to experience now.

Increased Urge to Urinate

You shall find it difficult to sleep through the night and have to make frequent trips to the toilet. This is the result of constant pressure exerted on your bladder. So, be prepared to spend most of your time in the bathroom now.

Increased Blood Volume

Your blood volume shall expand now, thereby sending more blood to your kidneys. Increased blood flow shall ensure better functioning of your uterus. This also increases your urine production. However, make it a point to take as much water and fluids possible to enjoy a healthy pregnancy. .
During this phase you must try to gather as much knowledge as you can about pregnancy. It will help you to have a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby. If you have any concerns or facing any discomfort, you must not hesitate to report to your doctor.
