Undergoing Beauty Treatments during Pregnancy

It is always better to consult your obstetrician before undergoing any beauty treatment during pregnancy. Read on to know what effects certain beauty treatments can have on your pregnant body and if it is safe to undergo certain beauty treatments during pregnancy.

Pregnancy is something that induces a natural glow on the face. But that seems to be the only good thing. Because a pregnant woman will undergo many changes in her body due to the increase in hormones. These changes are varied in number and might make the mother feel that she is losing her beauty. However, these changes are temporary and disappear once the baby is born. In spite of this, for a mother who wants to undergo
beauty treatments, here are some things that you should know.

Manicure and Pedicure

It is quite normal for pregnant women to notice that their fingernails and toe nails appear to grow faster. These are one of the many changes due to the raging hormones in the body. However, when you wish to do a manicure or a pedicure, make sure that they do not use many chemicals in the process.

Manicure and pedicure are completely safe if done with caution. The room should be well ventilated so that the chemicals do not stay for long in the vicinity of the mother. Also, nail colours contain formaldehyde and toluene which is harmful for the baby, if inhaled. Hence, a well ventilated room is a must so that the mother does not inhale the chemicals.

Body Massages

Body massages will be a great boon in these hard times. Due to the numerous changes in the body along with the small miracle in the belly, the mother tends to feel aches and pains which makes her tired. Body massages are completely safe for the mother as well as the child. However, it is safe to avoid any form of massage in the first trimester.

Many spas do not offer massages for women in their first trimester. Also, before getting a massage, make sure to inform your masseuse that you are pregnant. Special tables are available for pregnant women that enable them to lie on their belly without hurting the baby. There are several packages for pregnant women in spas. These might come in handy for your needs. Make sure you get your massages done in a good spa.

Tanning

Women of any age would love to have a tanned skin to increase their attractiveness. However, it is best to avoid tanning when you are pregnant. The skin of a pregnant woman becomes very sensitive and prone to acne and rashes etc due to the pregnancy. Hence, it is wise to avoid tanning in any form, be it tanning beds or tanning in the sun. Both will make the skin prone to rashes. Moreover, the womb of the mother should not exceed the temperature beyond 102.2 degrees. Hence, it is a must to stay away from heat and the sun.

Aromatherapy

The process of using scented oils for relaxing the body is called aromatherapy. There is no such evidence that aromatherapy is bad for pregnant women. However, the oils used in the therapy might not be suitable for the skin sometimes. Also, anything that penetrates into the skin is dangerous for the baby.

Hair Colouring

We all know that hair colouring includes the use of various chemicals. These chemicals have the chances of penetrating into the scalp and reaching the blood system. This is particularly dangerous for the foetus. The compounds that are present in hair colouring agents are very dangerous. Therefore, it is best to avoid colouring your hair during pregnancy.

These are some of the factors that you should keep in mind. It is wise to be careful throughout your first trimester. After all, the baby adds more glow than any beauty services.

Is it safe to undergo beauty treatments during pregnancy? Is it safe to colour hair during pregnancy? Is it safe to get body massage or aromatherapy treatment done during pregnancy?

Hi Keyuri, your sister-in-law is right, eyebrows and waxing involves hair pulling therefore it is not good during pregnancy as skin becomes very sensitive during pregnancy.
