How to Use a Home Pregnancy Test Kit

If you have missed your period and you want to know immediately if you are pregnant or not, you can use home pregnancy test kit. Read on and find tips for using home pregnancy test kit the right way.

Home pregnancy test kits are the best way to find out whether you are pregnant or not. Many people know about these test kits but are unaware of how to use them. Some even fear whether these are reliable and dependable or not. Many prefer going to the doctor and get the test done there so that they are sure about the result.

Many educated women, who know about the home pregnancy test kits do not take the advantage of the expediency of this test. The reason is that they are not very sure about the results. Perhaps most of them are not sure of how to go through the process. Well, after all every missed period does not result in pregnancy and you would not prefer rushing to the doctor each time you see a symptom.

Symptoms of Pregnancy

You should be aware of the symptoms of pregnancy so that you carry on the home pregnancy test and find out whether you are pregnant or not.

  • Missed period
  • Fatigue
  • Morning sickness
  • Nausea
  • Spotting
  • Frequent urination
  • Headache
  • Heart burn
  • Constipation
  • Tender breasts

Before Conducting Home Pregnancy Test

  • Home pregnancy test kits are recommended to be kept in refrigerators. If you need to carry out the test, bring the kit to room temperature before using it.
  • The first day of the missed period is said to be ideal to carry out the test.
  • Although test can be done anytime of the day, it is recommended to take the test early in the morning. This is because the urine in the morning is concentrated and the result will be sure.
  • Avoid taking any kind of liquid if you wish to take the test. This will help you get proper result.

How to Use a Home Pregnancy Kit

Read the instructions provided with the kit. Though the tests are more or less done in the same way, instructions may vary from one company to another. Where one might ask to put your urine directly on the window, other would ask you to collect urine in sterilised bottle and then put few drops on the testing window. Follow the instructions carefully.

According to the instructions put few drops of your first morning urine on the testing window of the home pregnancy test kit. Depending on the kit, the result will be shown in few minutes.

Display of results may be in different ways. Make sure you read properly the indications of positive and negative signs. In some kits the positive and negative signs are clear while in some changing of the colour of the urine is the indication. However, some pregnancy kits show bands where one band shows negative and two shows positive.

After Conducting the Home Pregnancy Test

Since the steps are very simple and convenient usually there will be no problem. If you do not find any change on the window, it might be because of the low level of the pregnancy hormone. In this situation, you can carry out the home pregnancy test once again after 72 hours. Even if you find a negative result and you think you might be pregnant, take the test again after 72 hours.

If the test is positive, it is time you visit a good doctor and get your initial tests done. You need to get further medical advice and also get your pregnancy confirmed by more accurate tests.
