What are childbirth/Lamaze classes
Childbirth classes guide the mother to cope with her pregnancy, labour and birth in a very comfortable manner. The classes are aimed at removing all kinds of fear and tension during labour and make the mother realise that birthing is a very natural process.
How are childbirth classes conducted
At every session, mothers are made to do stretching and strengthening exercises, learn the art of relaxation and taught breathing techniques. Time is also spent on discussing an interesting topic relevant to pregnancy and labour, such as cesarean birth, breastfeeding, nutrition, etc.
When can I start these classes
You can start taking the Lamaze classes anytime after you finish the first trimester. The earlier the better, so that the muscles can get toned right from the beginning. Furthermore, the mother may find it difficult to commute towards the end of the pregnancy.
Are fathers involved
Yes. In many classes, fathers are asked to accompany their wives at every session. In other classes, fathers are asked to attend at least one session. Fathers are given the necessary information on labour and delivery so that they can take an active part in their baby's birth and also provide the vital physical and emotional support to the mother in labour. This support of a caring and capable father will help you meet the challenge that childbirth offers.
