How to Prepare for Labour and Childbirth

Preparing for labour and childbirth helps you to stay calm and relaxed when you are approaching labour or nearing delivery. Find out the ways to prepare for labour and childbirth.

Each pregnancy is unique in its way, so it will not be right to generalise, as what you face can be a bit different from what you expect. However, it has been generally observed that a regular exercise and proper nutrition are proactive factors that ensure an easier labour time and delivery. Given below are some simple pointers that you can note to ensure that your labour is a less strenuous one:

Preparing for Labour and Delivery

You can keep the following points in mind for preparing for labour and delivery.

Have a Balanced Diet

Apart from having everything that your nutritionist has suggested, you need to take in a lot of proteins in your daily meals.

Increase intake of vitamin A and C

Vitamin A and C play a very effective role in healing wounds and aid in repairing tissues. During labour and delivery the genital tissues undergo a lot of strain and tear. These vitamins will help in their regeneration.

Increase vitamin K rich food intake

Vitamin K aids in the blood circulation and play a positive role in blood clotting. These are vital factors to take note of during labour.

Carbs are Good

Many women feel that it is alright to skip the carbs even when they are nearing delivery with a belief that carbs only add extra calories. But when you are approaching labour and even in your pregnancy period, carbohydrates are an important part of a regular diet. The carbs found especially in fruits and veggies, those in the cereals and legumes are very effective in enhancing the energy levels. They also balance the metabolism as well.

Guidelines That Aid Pre Labour Term

Have a look at some guidelines to aid pre labour term.

Do Not Miss Any Prenatal Appointments

It is very important that you stay abreast with everything happening in your body and are well aware of what to expect in the coming days. This gives a huge psychological preparation and reduces the overwhelming feeling to a great extent. Your pregnancy must be regularly monitored and any potential or real complications must be faced with a positive attitude. Cooperate with the doctor as he tries to take better control of the situation and aid a successful delivery.

Review the Success Statistics of Your Caregiver

During delivery you need to completely trust the caregiver and follow his advice without hesitation. So clarify your doubts if you have any, before you near the labour stage on what is the success rate of the practitioner, so that it clarifies and alleviates your doubts and fears regarding his or her abilities.

Decide on Birth Technique and Place

It is advisable to think about, discuss and decide on these factors just after you enter the final term of your pregnancy. Some women prefer to give birth in their home, or a certain birth centre or the hospital. So discuss the viability of your preference with your caregiver and family and make your decisions accordingly.

Be Aware of the Rules and Options

Whatever is your choice, you need to be aware of the rules and regulations that you need to follow; adhere to them and gain knowledge on what other precautions or pointers that are to be kept in mind. So that you and your family are in a position to be meet every emergency requirement, should there be any.

Attend Prenatal Classes

It is very important that you attend the childbirth classes. You will get firsthand knowledge on what to expect and how to prepare yourself physically through various exercises for the labour and this in fact works as a mental preparation as well. You feel confident that you are equipped to deal with the situation. A lot of myths and fears get busted during these sessions, and you are left with a practical picture of what to expect.

Make sure that you make use and follow all what you have learnt. A positive mind, a healthy lifestyle and being in a positive and supportive environment will help you a lot as you prepare for labour and childbirth. It is surely a vital and defining phase, but there are solutions for every situation and you need to be assured that these solutions will be available to you, if required.

I was quite active throughout my pregnancy. I did all the housework myself. On the day of labour and delivery, I cleaned house and all the clothes. when you don't think you can take the pain anymore, it's almost over and you do not happen to realize this.

These tips are really great. The most important is being active. I walked throughout my whole pregnancy and just stayed active. I had a normal delivery.
