The Don'ts of Pre-planning


If you are planning a baby, you must consider some lifestyle changes that can improve the chances of your conception and help you have a healthy pregnancy. Let us take a look at the don’ts of pre-planning.


Undergoing lifestyle changes is a must while planning a pregnancy. Doing certain things is important whereas avoiding some things is essential as well. Read on to learn more about the concerns of women about the don’ts of pre-planning.


Do my partner and I, both need to stop smoking and drinking?

Yes. If you or your partner smokes, try to stop. This may be the most important thing you can do for your own and your baby's health. Both you and your partner should also try to limit your alcohol intake to as little as possible. The reason is that the healthier the egg and sperm, the greater the chances of a healthier baby.


Do I need to stop eating cheese?

Avoid mould ripened soft cheese such as brie, camembert and blue-veined cheese; liver and liver products such as pate; all uncooked and raw or lightly cooked eggs.  These foods could cause miscarriages or stillbirths.


Are X-rays harmful?

Yes, they could be very harmful to the baby, especially in the first few months.  If you are going to have an X-ray, even if it is a dental x-ray, mention to your doctor that you may be pregnant.


Do I need to stop eating junk food?

Eating junk food once in a while may not be harmful. However, you need control your habit of eating junk food regularly. Eating junk food on regular basis may lead to unnecessary weight gain which may hamper your ability to conceive. Being overweight is not good if you are trying to conceive.


Should I avoid sedentary lifestyle?

If you want to boost your fertility and increase the chances of your conception, you must avoid sedentary lifestyle. Sedentary lifestyle may give rise to many disorders which may hamper your ability to conceive easily.


Tips for Improving the Chances of Conception

As mentioned above following a healthy lifestyle is extremely important for boosting the chances of conception. Here are few things that you must follow.

Take Care of Your Diet

Your diet must include fertility boosting foods. You must now include foods that are rich in folic acid. Folic acid is very important while planning a pregnancy. It is also very useful during the pregnancy period to prevent birth defects in babies.

Stay Fit

Excessive weight can affect the chances of conception. Therefore, staying fit and healthy is a must for boosting your overall health and fertility. Exercising regularly and maintaining a healthy weight is important if you want to get pregnant quickly.

Avoid Stress

Stress should be avoided in order to improve the chances of getting pregnant. Stress is one of the common causes of infertility. So, if you are undergoing stress, you must practice stress management techniques like yoga and meditation. You can also seek help from professionals if stress in unmanageable.

Consult an Obstetrician

When you start pre-planning your pregnancy, you must consult an obstetrician. He or she may subscribe some prenatal vitamins that can help to boost the chances of conception. He or she will also suggest some healthy lifestyle changes that can help you to have a healthy pregnancy.

If you are on birth control pill, you need to stop it. After making all the healthy lifestyle changes it is also important to have intercourse during your most fertile days in order to boost the chances of getting pregnant. Some couples may be successful in few attempts while it may take longer for some couples. A period of a couple of months to a year may be required for a successful conception to happen.
