Concerned about Losing your Figure

Concerned about Losing your Figure

One of the common concerns of women about getting pregnant is losing figure. Do women really lose their figure after getting pregnant and delivering a baby? Read on to learn more about concerns of women related to losing figure after delivery.
Most women fear losing their figure due to pregnancy and childbirth. But following right precautionary measures during pregnancy and after delivery can help to get back in shape easily. Let us take a look at the common concerns of women about losing figure after children birth as well as the solutions to these issues.

I am worried about losing my figure after childbirth

The mother's breasts usually do increase in size by as much as 2-5 inches during pregnancy and remain enlarged for a few months after delivery until the mother continues to nurse her baby. In addition to breasts, the uterus also expands in size during pregnancy. Soon after delivery, however, it begins to contract to get back to its original size. The stronger the abdominal muscles, the faster the uterus shrinks. Any abdominal muscle toning exercises done under the supervision of a certified trainer during pregnancy and prior to getting pregnant will greatly improve the elasticity of the muscles and help in the uterus contracting back to its pre-pregnancy size. In addition, contrary to popular belief, you are more likely to regain your figure if you breast-feed your baby.

Will my breasts sag with pregnancy or breastfeeding?

Since there are no muscles in the breast, only ligaments, your breasts will sag from the increased weight unless well supported by a good-fitting bra. These ligaments, once stretched, never return to their original size. Therefore, a bra with good all-round support should be worn at all times, preferably even while sleeping at night. The good news (or the bad news if you were flat-chested) is that your breasts will eventually shrink back almost to the pre-pregnancy size.

How to get-back in shape after delivery?

Here is what you can do to get back your pre-pregnancy figure easily after delivery.

Avoid Eating Junk

Sedentary lifestyle can make your body inflexible. Therefore, you must at least practice some simple exercises after consulting your doctor. Walking is considered to be one of the best exercises during pregnancy. Walking for at least 20 minutes twice-a-day can help to maintain flexibility of the body during pregnancy making the process of childbirth and getting back to pre-pregnancy figure easier. You can also practice yoga under expert’s supervision. Practising yoga during pregnancy can enable normal delivery and help you to get back your pre-pregnancy figure easily.

Take Care of Your Diet

Have a healthy prenatal diet as suggested by your doctor. Drink plenty of water. Include lots of green vegetables and fresh fruits in your diet.

Take Right Care after Delivery

You need to take right care of yourself after delivery. Avoid eating junk food even after delivery. Eat nutritious diet as per your doctor’s advice. Breastfeeding is very helpful in getting back to the pre-pregnancy shape. You must also take adequate rest for the period of 40 to 60 days after which you can practice low-impact exercises after consulting your doctor.
After delivery some women may gain a lot of weight whereas some women may not gain any weight at all. Focus on having a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby rather worrying about losing your figure. If you aim at having a healthy pregnancy, getting back your pre-pregnancy figure can be easier than you think.

having had 3 very different labours - the best advice on getting through the contractions is deep breaths' and focus on what you will be getting at the end of it - not on the pain.

to avoid painful labour pains take two dolomite tablets and two bone meal tablets six weeks before delivering. also drink red raspberry tea throughout your pregnancy available at health food stores.

i had taken an epidural injection for painless delivery 5 years back (2000). i couldnt feel the labour pain only the contractions so delivery was normal and easy. my child was also born healthy. i havent faced any problems after that, i have no backache which generally is a misconception attached to epidural and i am back to my original slim form and fit as a feedle. i am planning to go for a second baby and will definitely go for an epidural again.

i think if you take epidural during labor, you don't feel much of pain. it is widely used in many countries , like us , canada, europe.it is pretty safe. in india some hospitals also use that.

i have 2 kids. my advice to reduce pain and to speed up the process is by walking a lot before delivery. too much walking will loose up the cervic muscles and help speed up delivery with less pain.
