Tips for Recovering from Delivery

Tips for Recovering from Delivery

Right care is essential for having a speedy post delivery recovery. Read on to find tips for the speedy recovery after delivery or childbirth.
When you are recovering from delivery, the most vital point to keep in mind is ample rest. Your body has gone through the rigours of pregnancy and childbirth and have naturally suffered a lot of wear and tear. Not only your abdominal and vaginal muscles, your joints and other muscles also require overcoming the stress or trauma of childbirth. So make sure that you get the desired amount of rest. Stated below are some simple tips that can help you in recovering from delivery with ease:

Check Your Physical Movements

It is important to maintain a certain level of physical activity post delivery, as recommended by your doctor. This can be done by taking a stroll on the garden or in your room itself. But intermittently, spaced out with due amount of rest. You have to listen to your body and not exert it at any point of time. You must not lift weight and avoid using the stairs until you have healed completely.

Breastfeed

This is perhaps the most vital aspect of post delivery care. Breastmilk not only ensures the sustenance of the baby, it also helps your body to recover fast and effectively. It helps in the development of bond between the mother and the baby and is a great way to deal with the baby blues or the post delivery depression that women usually experience during this period. It is a natural dieting process as the mother loses weight gradually and also recovers her energy and stamina. Not to forget, breastfeeding effectively reduces the risk of breast cancer in women.

Food and Nutritional Intake

During the post delivery period, it is very important that you take good care on your overall diet. Your daily nutritional requirements must be met and alongside, you must also ensure that baby is also deriving adequate nutrition. This is ensured by maintaining the quality and supply of breastmilk as he is solely dependent on you for the fulfilment of his requirements.

You need to have a balanced diet with good amounts of protein, fibres and essential fats. Seek the advice of an expert nutritionist and your doctor on a customised diet plan. This is to ensure that all your vitamin and mineral requirements are identified and a proper supplement is decided upon. Avoid junk food, caffeine, smoking and alcohol. Make sure that you keep yourself hydrated with plenty of water and juices throughout the day. This will not only aid the supply of breast-milk but also ease out constipation which is common during the post delivery period.

Avoid Sex

Your body needs certain amount of time to recuperate after you have delivered. Usually it should be 4-6 weeks before you can start having sex with your partner. This allows the vaginal tissues to heal and the stitches to get dry and fully cured. Otherwise, it might result in increased bleeding, cramps, re-opening of the tissues and thereby pain and infection.

Finally, as you recover from delivery, make sure that you always have help at hand. This is not only from the point of view of regular physical activities, when you need a helping hand right from your own laundry to taking care of the house to cleaning the diapers of the baby. You also need to see that you seek counsel from appropriate sources when you are feeling down and feel that there is something amiss in your motherhood. This can allay possible depression post delivery.
