There
are few points that the parents/care giver must keep in mind while dealing
with a disabled child.
These are enumerated as follows: - Parents may be highly upset to discover that their child is disabled but to ensure that the child gets the best possible care they must go in for counseling and learn to accept their child’s disability. This is the first and most important step in the rehabilitation of disabled child.
- One must deal with the child as normally as possible, encouraging him to carry out all the normal activities to the extent possible. Care should be taken by the parents not to emotionally or psychologically cause stress in the child. -
The functional assessment of the child’s visual impairment must be undertaken
by trained rehabilitation personnel to estimate his level of ability and
functioning.
