Hi! My duaghter is 3 months old in a week. SHe has had diahrea for 8 days. I have seen the doctor twice each time the Dr says that as long as I am feeding him regularily it is ok. But I am very worried because she turns red in the face and strains a lot even though her bowel movements are very watery and mucous like, yellowish green in colour. Black stool is *never* normal except for the very first stool right after the baby is born. After that, black stool usually means blood and you need to contact the doctor immediately!

Good advice from a General Practitioner friend: put some raisins (pref. organic), into a bottle, pour boiling water over them, leave to cool, then push them through a sieve, give baby the juice in a bottle. This really does work!!

Just wanted to let you all know my experiences with my 3 month old daughter. She was strictly breastfed for about 2 months and had the "normal" mustard seed BM's almost every diaper change. Now she is mostly formula fed and has a BM ever 2-3 days consistently. They are dark green and blue and fairly thick. Although she sems very uncomfortable and strains alot she quickly gets over the ordeal. She has been given a clean bill of health but every baby is different. As a parent if you are concerned about something take your child to a doctor. dont necessarily go on the experiences of other people.

In response to Mama, about her grandson: My son did the same thing. My ped. told me he has infant reflux, which is commonly mistaken for colic. He would scream during feedings and arch his back. My ped. put him on an antacid and things are back to normal. Try that!

dear Asereht green coloured stools indicate an intestinal infection. it usually happens when the formaul does nt agree wth the child and creates a major digestive disorder. i do not mean to scare u. but pls consult wth ur doc immedaitely. ur child will look noraml but has a n intestinal infection

This is to Avamommy, you might try gently massaging babys' belly to loosen things up a little bit. I hope this place will be a helpful place where people will hear and gain knowledge from hearing of others' expieriences. I think it is good for new mothers esspecialy but, really for all mothers to have several resources to obtain a diverse selection to turn to. To speak of any obsticles overcome, or to hear some one with the same problem or concern may be if nothing else reasuring to them.

Occasionally mothers that do use cloth diapers with rubber pants will find a roundish type, pinkish coloured stain right at the seat area of their baby's rubber pants.
