The Reasons Why Parents Yell

reasons why parents yell
Do you want to stop yelling at kids? Sometimes you yell at them only to feel guilty later on. Read more about the reasons parents yell at children and why it is unhealthy.
We have all seen situations when parents cannot stop yelling at home. Yes, there is a generation gap even though you may not like to admit it. Here are a few reasons why parents yell and how it can be stopped.

Yelling Over Poor Grades

Children sometimes do not do well at school making you feel responsible as an adult for overseeing their performance. Yes, you have to take a personal interest in their studies however children performing poorly in school can be due to other reasons as well.
Their interests may lie elsewhere apart from studies hence do not be overly obsessed with grades and college. Some children only study well and cannot do other stuff at all. Hence, be happy if your child is able to manage in school without bossing over them. You could also consider hiring a home tutor who can help with his or her studies. Remember, that academics is not everything.

Removing Your Own Frustrations

When you have a bad day at work do you come home and feel like shouting at your children? It is called displacement of anger. It is a situation where you are angry with someone else but vent out your frustrations on your child after reaching home.
As a Mom or Dad you need to be more responsible and less angry. Leave work where it needs to be and do not compromise family time for work. Even if you are stressed about something, do not target your frustration on children.

Generation Gap Exists

There is always a generation gap between parents, grand-parents and kids. You need to move over your own differences and try to make things work out.
Perhaps things were very different when you were young. Nowadays, life is very difficult for children. There are so many new projects and subjects being introduced every day. Children are given difficult tasks for home-work and they still have to cope. Things must not have been that way when you studied. Perhaps you had never even seen a computer however you find that kids are extremely well aware about technology, gadgets, etc. The gap needs to be bridged and you need to understand that the modern child’s lifestyle is very different as compared to earlier generations. There is no point arguing about unwanted stuff.

Do Not Expect Children to Fulfil Your Dreams

As a child, you perhaps always wanted to become a doctor or scientist. Due to some reasons, your dreams never came true and now you are hell-bent on making your child fulfil those dreams and ambitions. What is the point in forcing your child to become a scientist or engineer if he or she has no aptitude or interest in those subjects?
Thus, be careful on what you expect from your kids because expectations can hurt a lot. Do not thrust the weight and burdens of the world on your child as though he or she is a machine. Kids too deserve respect without feeling burdened.

Have More Kids Only When You are Ready

Sometimes giving birth to a child is not something you expected. Do not have more kids just because of society pressure. A lot of times relatives and others may ask you when will you be planning a second child.
You should be happy to have children. Remember that having kids is a very big responsibility. Whether it is financially, mentally or emotionally – you have to be prepared for what is ahead after giving birth and be ready to shoulder the responsibilities of a parent.
It is nice to be a parent however forcing yourself to have kids will not help. A child needs acceptance from parents and needs to be loved. You should be clear on deciding whether you want children or not and whether you will be able to take up the duties of a parent. Otherwise, it will lead to friction and unwanted fights in the family.
Thus, there are several reasons parents may yell at children. From a simple reason like low grades or a matter as serious as a career change, parents cannot be involved in every little detail or interfere in the nitty-gritty. There is always room for growth and sooner or later your child will learn to accept life as it is. Hence, set a positive example for kids and be a great role model without yelling at children.

It is essential to avoid yelling at children as it can affect their behaviour. They may start yelling back at parents if parents continue to yell.
