Does it seem like the fights or arguments between you and your kid is increasing? Please stop punishing children for behaviour outside their control. Read to learn further.

Parenting is a skill developed over a period of time. Not all parents are blessed with goody good children who follow every instruction and word. Children cannot be blamed unreasonably so parents should stop punishing children for behaviour which is outside their control.

Here are a few ways to avoid harsh punishments on children and be a good parent:

Don’t Compare Them

Avoid comparisons with other children as this can have a negative effect. Instead try to focus on your child’s positive qualities. Disciplined children are more successful in life hence teach and help your kids but do not take over their life. Avoid making them feel neglected or unwanted. Do not ignore your child as this can create ill-feelings and hurt them.

Support Them

Always support your children especially when there are other kids involved. It is a different story if your children are wrong but even then avoid condemning your kids in public. A public showdown is always embarrassing for kids so do not fight in public. Offer your maximum support to children at all stages of life because only then they know your value.

Be your child’s support system whenever they need your help. Mentally strong parents do not worry instead they confidently handle all types of feelings and behaviour in a positive manner.

Avoid Escalating the Situation

When your child and you have a fight, avoid escalating the situation. Anger and verbal exchanges does no good. Sometimes, in the heat of the moment you might say or do something which will offend your child. Be such a type of parent that your kids are seldom afraid of talking to you or sharing something.

Teach Them

Teach your child the uselessness of anger, smoking, drinks, etc. Unless you teach your kids and have friendly conversations with them; how will they learn? Make yourself and your rules very clear especially when they reach teenage years and there is peer pressure all around. At this stage, children are very tempted to disobey hence put yourself in their place and help them understand things.

Support your children by correcting them whenever they make mistakes and be there for them whenever they need you.

Be a ‘Cool’ Parent

Today’s generation kids love the word – ‘cool’! Whenever they see something wonderful or admirable, they use this word. Trying to be a ‘cool’ parent will bring you closer to them. Be nice when they call their friends home and when they ask your advice. There is nothing more wonderful than to see children and parents trying their best to keep up with the ever changing times.

Keep them close to you however give them the liberty and independence in life as well. Let them learn the importance of friendships and relationships and let them learn the greatness of parental love.

Give Them a Second Chance

Sometimes due to issues like ego or pride, trust is broken and relationships become sour. In many families, there is enmity and hostility between the members. There is no emotion greater than ‘love.’

Life happens only once so make sure that all is well. Neither you nor your kids are going to be there forever. One day, you too will become old and they too will get married and go away. Hence, whenever possible be loving and kind to your children and teach them to do the same. Life is short so do not have grudges or regrets.

Thus, we should not unnecessarily blame the kids or punish them. There are so many circumstances and situations in this world which nobody can control. Hence, regulate their behaviour whenever needed but do not put up with mood swings and tantrums. Be a fantastic parent, friend and support in your child’s life.

Why is it necessary to avoid punishing children? What can parents do instead of punishing children? How to raise well-behaved children? Discuss here.

By punishing children they will never understand the difference between right and wrong. Parents should try to make children understand the difference between right and wrong and teach children the consequences of doing any kind of mischief.

Punishing children is actually not good. Even if it is a mistake of children, parents should help children to realize their mistake and ask them not to repeat it instead of punishing them.
