If you want
to inculcate the reading habit in your child but don't know how to go about
it, here's an idea. Introduce your child to the magical world of Harry Potter, and you've got him hooked for life.
Muggles just
cannot seem to get enough of Harry Potter, the boy wizard. The wait is
finally over for children and adults around the globe, as the much-awaited
fifth book in the much-acclaimed series, has finally hit the stands.
So who is Harry
Potter?
For those of
you who have missed the earlier four books and are wondering what all the
hype is about, here's a peek into Harry Potter's world. While we cannot
divulge all the details without spoiling the reading experience for you,
suffice it to say that Harry is a young lad with a lightening shaped scar
on his forehead, who has strange powers… powers that he didn't know he
possessed until one day the truth was revealed to him: he is a wizard!
Harry is then taken to Hogwarts, the
where his powers are honed so he turns into one of the best students wizards
in the school. During his term Harry is subject to all sorts of dangers
by Voldemort (Oops, I said it!!), the Dark Lord, who's very name rings
with evil vibrations and inspires deep fears in the hearts of all those
that live in this parallel universe. While wizards and witches co-exist
with humans or Muggles, they have their own rules, regulations, secret
society, and even the secret platform 9 1/4 for catching the train
to Hogwarts. The school is filled with ghosts, mystical creatures, and
paintings that talk guard the entrance of the house dormitories. All photographs
in the world of the wizards move about, snakes talk and cars fly. The book
introduces you and your children to an entire new world of magic and mystery,
and from the moment you start reading the first book, you are hopelessly
entangled in the web woven by J.K. Rowling. J.K. Rowling has incidentally
made so much money from the sale of her books that she is rumored to be
richer than the Queen of England!
The books
in the Harry Potter series include:
Harry Potter and
the Sorcerer's Stone, also known as Harry Potter and the Philosopher's
Stone
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
While you
can read them in any order, just as you can watch a sequel before watching
the first part, you enjoy the books best if you read them in the right
order. The books follow Harry's journey in school, as he progresses from
one grade to the next. Harry turns 15 in this latest book, and we can't
help but wonder what's going to happen in the next two books. J.K. Rowling
has promised 7 books in the series, but will fans be satisfied by that,
or will they want more? Will there ever be a time when Harry the kid wizard
going becomes Handsome Harry the Man? Only time will tell.

my daughter is reading her 3rd harry potter book which is fine for me. being hp fans ourselves, my hubby & i read the whole series, and we both agree that the ending of book 4 starts off a new era to this series. the death of an innocent boy comes as a shock to the reader & even though i'm a grown up it still affected me! book 5 is very dark & eventually book 6 is all about curses and revenge! so please think it twice before letting your children indulge in the 2nd part of the harry potter series.

my daughter, though always a talented reader, really gained a love of reading after we read her the first harry potter book one year ago. after that she began reading the books on her own. now, at age seven, she is just about finished with book five. another series that your children may enjoy is the chronicles of narnia. i also want to add that though some people of my religion disagree with children reading books about witchcraft, my daughter does not, in any way, think magic is real or want to be a witch and still has much faith in god and believes just as strongly in our faith.
