5 After-School Questions You Must Ask Your Child

Having discussion with children after they are back from school can help parents to make sure that child’s school life is going smoothly. Let us take a look at the top 5 after-school questions that parents can ask their children.

When your child begins to go to school you are loaded with some extra responsibilities of taking care of her school activities also. You need to take care of her grades, need to meet her teachers sometimes to know how she is in school. Asking her questions lets your kid understand that she is being continuously scrutinised by you and will refrain her from doing anything wrong. It also helps you to figure out if she is facing any trouble at school. But remember not to start with your questionnaires just after your kid reaches home. Give her some time to put her bags down and take rest. Allow her some time to relax and she will open up to you easily.

Apart from “how was your day” and “what did you do at school today”, there are also a lot of questions that you may ask your kid. These questions sound very common and your kid also gets bored answering these questions every day. So here are some other questions that you can ask your kid once she is home.

1. Whom did you sit beside at lunch today?

Kids like when you ask them, questions that sound interesting to them. They hate answering the same old boring questions you ask them every other day about how was their day. Kids like when you talk about their friends and show interest in knowing about their friends. Ask her about the names of her friends and try to contact their parents too. This will help you in getting information if by any chance your kid has missed any class. You will notice your kids opening up to you and talking about their friends, how they enjoy and all sorts of childish stuffs. Ask them what lunch all her other friends brought to school, do they share each other’s lunch or not. How was her own lunch today, did she like it etc.

2. Which is your favourite subject?

This question may sound somewhat very common but this is very important to know, which your child’s favourite subject is. She will name that subject in which she finds interest. It is very important for you to know because then only you will understand that the other subjects might not be interesting to her and you can find out the reasons why your child is not interested in other subjects. You can discuss this with the class teacher and can find out measures how to bring back your child’s interest in that subject.

3. Can you show me what you learnt today at school?

This will help you understand how your child is making progresses at school or whether her grades are falling. Always scrutinise her copies to know the remarks her teachers are giving. Give your child the required guidance she needs at home. Do not only depend on the school to make your child learned. Parents also have a major role to play in developing a child’s career.

4. What are the rules of your class that your teacher talks about?

This will let you know whether your child is being trained with the proper disciplines in school or not. You may also ask your kid whether she finds the rules at home different from the rules at school ;if yes does she like it or not.

5. Did anything funny happen in school today?

This is a very light question to ask to your kid, you can ask this to bring a jovial mood in your conversation with your kid. He will happily answer this question and you both can have a good laugh at this.

It is very important for the parents to know what is happening in your kid’s school. Always try to keep a close check to the activities of your kid. It is a part of good and responsible parenting.

What kind of questions should parents ask when children come back from school? Why is it important to ask children about their day at school? How can talking to children about their school life help parents? Discuss here.
