Memory Skills That Make Kids Smarter

Memory Skills That Make Kids Smarter
Learning ability and memory are the most important skills you can instil in your child. Every parent wants to see his or her child be smart in life. Read on to learn about the memory skills that make kids smarter.

Learning and remembering continues throughout the life. If your child is good at learning, he or she can have good memory skills also. Learning gets deeper when it is done with effort. However, developing the skills is always the best way to make it stronger. Here are some memory skills that can make your kid smarter.

1. Testing Memory

One of the best ways to make memory skill stronger is to retrieve things from your child’s memory. There are some games or mental exercises that help develop this skill. You can make use of flash cards to help your child. This will help strengthen neural pathway associated with a given concept.

2. Help Your child Connect New Ideas

Learning a new concept becomes very easy if you relate it to the existing one in your child’s mind or with something that is connected to daily life. It will make the grasp on the new learning stronger.

3. Learning on Varied Subjects

Even though many parents feel that kids should concentrate on one subject at a time and go to another only when it is completed, experts say that learning becomes better when it is mixed with examples. It will help your child figure out what kind of problem he or she is going to face before he or she comes up with a solution.

4. Encourage your Child to Go to Class Fully Prepared

Preparation for the daily classes done beforehand helps kids to learn faster and master the subject as well. Teach your child to read and try to understand the chapters that are going to be covered in the class.

5. Let Your Child Evaluate on Her Own

If your child reviews the day-to-day work and tests his or her abilities daily, he or she will be able to understand few things like what went well or wrong, where he or she can improve or what any instance reminds him or her of. Let him or her write down so that analysis is done perfectly.

6. Recall Through Image

Play games with your child by showing images so that he or she recalls everything related to that image. Let him or her share that with you. Encourage your child by giving him or her some hint, if necessary, because this will improve his or her retrieving power.

7. Let your Child Participate in Quizzes

There are many things your child might think he or she understands, but it might be just cognitive illusion. Let him or her take test and see whether he or she understands and remembers on the subject or not and if he or she does, how much he or she gets.

8. Practice, Practice and Practice

Regardless of the techniques and memory skills on which you help your child work, practice is the key to success in every field. Memory skills can be expanded with practice. So, let your child practice and follow the tips consistently.

9. Develop Social Skills

Memory skills get sharpened when your child spends time with smarter kids and participates in varied activities.

10. Improve Concentration and Attention

Help your child pay attention to different things like watch TV when there is an informative program or the news is being broadcasted. This will help him or her improve his or her knowledge database and the capability to remember and discuss with others on varied topics.
Accomplishing the above tips will greatly improve your child’s performance in daily life. Do not assume that your child will always have a bad memory if she has at present. Memory skills can be improved with time and practice. Have patience and stay consistent in your efforts.
