5 Ways to Improve Your Child's Concentration

It is important for children to concentrate on studies properly so that they can get good grades in exams. Here are 5 simple ways which you can follow to improve your child's concentration.

Finding your kids facing difficulty while concentrating on doing their homework? Are they feeling sleepy whenever they are supposed to be studying? Is it getting harder for you to make them concentrate in a particular task? Focusing on one task for a longer time is not easy for the budding children to whom everything is new and amusing. Helping your children to attain better concentration levels is a challenging skill, but with the below given five ways, you can increase your children's concentration.

1. Set Up Your Children's Workspace and Minimize Distraction

Create an environment more amenable for concentration. Remember kids do not have the ability to screen out distractions like adults have, so set up a workplace for your kids, which is away from all possible distractions, such as TV, noise, other people, loud music, toys, etc. The ideal workplace should have a good lighting and comfortable places to sit. Also, the place should be neat and clean. Use this place for any kind of reading, homework, studying, or art projects.

2. Set Goals and Schedule the Activities

Teach your kids to set goals to increase their ability to focus. Simple goals, such as listen for 10 minutes without interrupting, finish a crossword puzzle in less than 5 minutes, read for 15 minutes without taking a break, etc., will increase attention span. Allow them set their own goals to make it more meaningful for them, and increase difficulty in goals as their concentration improves. Teach your child that sometime you have to do things that are not interesting. Also, help them divide the big projects into small tasks while taking breaks in between that helps in concentration.

3. Set Sequencing and Organization Activities

Sequencing is connected to concentration. Activities like setting up the table, putting things in alphabetical order, playing memory games, etc. are great for kids who have concentration difficulties. Do some fun games, be it painting, building models, writing, or whatever your child loves. Plan to play board games with your kids which help them to focus more. Plan more fun activities and keep them excited along with teaching them how to focus.

4. Spend Time with Your Kids

You must be very busy with your work, but never fail to give time to your kids. Try to be with them when they are studying – this helps in positive reinforcing. They concentrate more in their work when being guided. Read to them whenever you get free time. Ask them how their day was so they can recollect and summarize you the story of their day. Spend time with them and figure out what are the activities your children focus on best. Activities of their own interest motivates them, thus helping in better concentration. Spend more hours with your kids to help them develop their own talents and increase their focus.

5. Support a Healthy Lifestyle

You have to keep an eye on the lifestyle habits of your children. Serve them with a diet rich in whole grains, fruits, and vegetables to make their brain work the most. Reduce their sugar intake and increase the protein levels in eggs, almonds, and lean meat – this helps shaking off lethargy and boost their ability to focus on different tasks. Make sure your children sleep well, as restlessness decreases the concentration ability. Teach them how to breathe deeply and let them exercise to have a healthy mind and body.
Apart from the above mentioned ideas, you should also keep few other things in mind – catch your children doing good and praise them, reward them for their good deeds, avoid setting goals above their maturity level, avoid multitasking, give advanced notice about changes in activities, etc. All these together will help in increasing your children's ability to focus and concentrate.

Sometimes it is the mistake of parents as they put on TV or talk in front of child while he or she is studying. It is distracting and children cannot concentrate on studies.
