Acupuncture for Treating Infertility

Acupuncture for Treating Infertility

Acupuncture for treating infertility is an age-old natural treatment for dealing with infertility issues. Learn more about the effectiveness of acupuncture in treating infertility.
Acupuncture for treating infertility is predominantly a Chinese concept. It can work on its own or can complement a medical treatment. The process is to place hair-thin needles at certain points on the body. These points should be along the meridian lines or the lines of energy.

Through acupuncture the objective is to restore the desired balance in the body. According to the ancient Chinese belief, illness be it of any type, and even fertility issues are caused due to the imbalance of energy in the body. So by stimulating these particular points through acupuncture, one can heal the troubled aspect, including fertility.

How is Infertility Treated through Acupuncuture?

There are numerous cases to prove that acupuncture can indeed solve infertility issues. But the point to note here is that the treatment method is more effective on certain variants rather than all the possible reasons causing infertility. Acupuncture can treat the functional problems better than the structural ones.

If a woman has irregular ovulation cycle, acupuncture can help her deal with it easily. Ovarian and follicular functions can receive a positive impact through acupuncture. Similarly, it has been found that the old flow to the endometrium walls can be increased through acupuncture, facilitating a thicker lining for the foetus to grow.

Fertility issues that cannot be solved through acupuncture – all structural ones, be it for the male or the female. If there is endometriosis or any other pelvic inflammatory ailment, acupuncture may not be effective. It cannot rectify tubal adhesions. If there is a blockage in the sperm ducts, it also cannot be treated by acupuncture.

The Debate on the Effectiveness and Manner of Treatment

There has been an endless debate between the medical practitioners of the east and west on this, as acupuncture is primarily considered to be an eastern way of treatment. It indeed does regulate the body system by enhancing the flow of blood to certain ‘weak’ areas, the reproductive organs and simultaneously stabilising the hormonal levels as well. Just be this attribute only, one can notice the improvement in the ovarian functions of women and the quality and quantity of sperm production in men.

Who can Benefit?

Infertility causing spasmed tubes can be effectively treated with acupuncture. With regular sittings the spasmed tubes can invariably be de-spasmed. But one must note that blocked sperm tubes cannot be treated through acupuncture. The levels of follicle stimulating hormone can be raised through acupuncture.

Women suffering from repeated miscarriages, luteal phase issues, hyperprolactinemia, polycystic ovarian syndrome and unexplained infertility or idiopathic infertility are known to have been effectively treated with acupuncture. Infertility in men caused from sperm-DNA-fragmentation can also be treated with acupuncture.

Works Best as a Complimentary Treatment

It has been found that when acupuncture is administered to women who are already undergoing IVF, the results are very positive. This is because acupuncture induces a high degree of relaxation during the stressful clinical fertility treatments. It rather helps and prepares the body to cope with the clinical treatment.

The die-hard non believers of the effectiveness of acupuncture in treating infertility also accept that it is the energy regulating factor that is at work in our system. There is no doubt on the fact that acupuncture enhances the production of endorphins. This is the ‘feel good’ chemical that is naturally secreted by the brain. Endorphins regulate the menstrual cycle and ovulation. And when the endorphin levels are high, it can naturally render a positive impact on the reproductive health of men and women alike.

Does acupuncture really work? I doubt as how it can treat infertility just by increasing the blood flow. there are many other factors affecting fertility.
