Male Infertility Treatments

Male Infertility Treatments

Male infertility treatment depends on the specific cause of infertility. Male infertility is completely curable, provided the exact cause of infertility is determined with the help of fertility tests. Read on about some treatments options for male infertility.

Infertility is a condition when a couple trying to have a baby are not successful even after having unprotected sex for a continuous period of one year. The fertility of a couple depends upon a number of factors in both the partners.
To ascertain the cause of infertility and the treatment options both the male and the female have to undergo fertility tests. Thanks to advances in the field of medical science, today it is possible to pinpoint the cause of infertility in most couples. In this article you will find useful tips pertaining to male infertility cure and treatment.
There are a number of factors which can affect the fertility of a male. Infertility in males could be due to hormonal disorders, sexual dysfunction, anatomy trauma or obstruction in the reproductive organs.
Male infertility treatment will depend upon a number of factors like
  • The cause of infertility
  • The period for which a person has been infertile
  • The biological age and
  • Personal preferences.

Treatments for Male Infertilty -

Some of the treatments options for male infertility include:

Surgery -

A fairly common problem resulting in male infertility is Varicocele. It refers to the presence of varicose veins in the testicles which makes it difficult for the blood to circulate properly in the testicles. As a result, the excess blood in the testicles can cause the temperature in the testicles to rise leading to abnormal testosterone levels. This increased temperature in the scrotum prevents the proper production and maturation of sperm. This is a serious fertility issue which can be corrected in majority of cases with the help of surgery.

Antibiotic Treatment -

At times the count of white blood cells in the blood becomes very high which is a clear indication of an infection in the reproductive tract. Doctors may prescribe antibiotics to cure the infection and restore fertility. In extreme cases despite the use antibiotics it may not be possible to restore the fertility.

Drug Therapy -

Drug therapy for male infertility makes use of medicines to improve sperm production, treat hormonal dysfunction, cure infections that compromise sperm, and fight sperm antibodies. Commonly used drugs include Tamoxifen which an antiestrogen agent used to stimulate the male hormone release and increase the production of testosterone. Antibiotics, like Levofloxacin and Doxycycline are also used to treat fertility impacting infections of the urinary tract, testes, Prostate, and STDs.

Sexual Intercourse -

In cases where erectile dysfunction or premature ejaculation is responsible for infertility in men doctors prescribe medicines. Counseling is another alternative available to correct sexual intercourse problems in males.

Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) -

For blocked vas deferens, retrograde ejaculation or any other problems related to sperm delivery ART can be used to help the couple conceive. During these procedures the male sperm is taken directly from the testicle or recovered from the bladder and injected into an egg. The most common ART treatment is in vitro fertilisation (IVF). This procedure involves surgically removing an egg from a woman's ovary, fertilising the sperm and egg in a lab and then placing the fertilised egg directly into the uterus.
The treatment for male infertility will depend upon the specific cause of infertility and the extent of impairment. Majority of male fertility issues can be treated. In cases where treatment is not possible doctors may suggest that couple to go in for Surrogacy which involves using the sperm of a donor or adopting a child.
