I wanted to know the reason behind the festival as I heard from an indian friend that it was about the prince being exiled because his brother, who usurped his throne, wanted his woman. The woman kept her lovers slippers for when he returned and, after many years of living in the forest he did. The wicked brother died and his widow lit candles along with the villagers to show the way home for her lover. When he arrived, old, he was presented with his slippers from his future wife who had never stopped loving him. THen I read this website and find two other stories ! It must be very confusing for Hindus having so many stories for the one celebration. At least we know where we stand with Xmas ! Need the correct diwali story as Im running workshop on Tuesday with very young children and thought I would incorporate something about Diwali, but now Im just confused. We need to know the definitive version please. Thanks
