Diarrhea can be caused due to infection, side effects of antibiotics and many other factors. Diarrhea can be mild to severe and depending on the condition of the patient, remedy is prescribed. Severe diarrhea can cause dehydration, which if not treated immediately, may lead to death in some cases too.
People from any age group can suffer from diarrhea and it occurs when the intestine is not able to absorb water from the food taken. If diarrhea is continued for long period of time, it will lead to loss of various minerals in the body and make the patient extremely weak. The remedies are also judged and suggested by considering the number of lose stools that the person had and the frequency of the stools as well.

Home Remedies for Diarrhea

There are various home remedies for diarrhea available today. If you are a person who believes in natural remedies, here are some tips that work well. If you want to try these remedies on your children, do consult your pediatrician.

  • Fresh juice of amla or Indian gooseberry mixed with lime juice and sugar is very beneficial for the person suffering from diarrhea.
  • Add one teaspoonful of ginger in boiling water and consume it warm. Make sure that you check the temperature before consuming. This should be taken every hour for better results.
  • Make a mixture of 1/2 teaspoonful of ginger juice, 1/2 teaspoonful of lemon juice and 1/4 teaspoonful of pepper powder and drink this twice a day.
  • Curd with mashed banana also helps cure diarrhea.
  • Curd with one teaspoonful of ginger juice and mango juice also helps in controlling diarrhea.
  • Roasted cumin seeds with curd after meal also help in digestion, prevents and cures diarrhea.
  • Drinking buttermilk with black salt and roasted cumin seeds help cure diarrhea and also helps in covering up the fluid loss.
  • Taking one teaspoonful of apple cider vinegar mixed with one glass of water after every meal will also help in treating diarrhea.
Individuals who are allergic to above mentioned ingredients should avoid it. Although, these home remedies are very helpful, the most important thing that should be kept in mind is that the patient must be given fluid at regular interval of time. This is because there is loss of fluid in the patient's body when the person is suffering from diarrhea. Once the diarrhea is under control, the patient should be given fresh fruit juices and well-cooked vegetables so that the loss in the body gets recovered.
The frequent watery stool has to be checked and at the same time loss of fluid should also be taken care of. Diarrhea, if acute, can be extremely dangerous especially for children and elderly people. Diarrheas are sometimes accompanied by cramps in the abdomen. However, the causes and symptoms depend on many factors. If these are extremely painful and you are not able to control frequency of diarrheas, you should immediately consult a doctor.

Diarrhea can be fatal for small children. Therefore, immediate medical attention is need. ORS should be administered immediately.
