Helping Kids to Deal with Homework Stress

Helping Kids to Deal with Homework Stress
The load of homework on kids is increasing day-by-day due to the changed pattern of our education system. Kids get stressed-out if they are not able to complete their homework on time. Read on to learn how you can help your child deal with homework stress.

There was a time when homework was meant to be that part of study completed at home which needs practice and application. Teachers used to give some work so that the child remains in touch with the education part even when he goes back from school.

Today, homework means dedication of time and energy of not just kids, but also involvement of parents, physically as well as mentally. Well, if you plan and organise everything you can help in reducing the stress that homework gives to your child. Here are some tips that can help you make your child not only complete his homework on time, but also take it lightly.

Tips for Reducing Homework Stress of Kids

Have a quick look at the simple ways for helping your kid to complete homework on time and deal with homework stress easily.

Set small Goals

As soon as your child comes home, check his homework in each subject. Go through them and analyze how much time and effort your kid will have to give in order to complete it on time. If your kid is fussy or hyperactive, you can break the complete work into small segments so that your child is not forced to sit for long. You can reward your child the break but remember to set the timer so that he comes back to complete the rest of his homework immediately after the break time ends.

Fix a Separate Area for Homework

This is one of the most important aspects that each parent should take into account. Allotting a separate place for study helps increase your child’s concentration level because he gets less distracted. This will help him complete his homework on time and feel stress free also.

Provide Healthy Snack before Study Time

If your child is hungry or full, he will not be able to concentrate and complete his homework efficiently. It is advisable to offer a healthy snack that provides your child enough energy without feeling lethargic so that he completes his studies on time.

Create a Time Management Plan

Time management is equally important for kids for completing their homework efficiently and without any stress. Help your child plan properly and make use of the time allotted for homework to the most. If they understand the meaning and intention of time management, they will not only save time, but also not feel annoyed.

Review Work before Going to Bed

Help your child develop the habit of reviewing his work before he gets into bed. Make sure he packs his bag and all necessary things for the next day in school. This will reduce stress, save him from embarrassment and will also make him an organised person in future.

In addition to keeping in mind the above tips, as a parent you should also check whether the homework given to your kid can be covered in the limited period of time or not. If you find that the school is over-pressuring your child with loads of homework, it is advisable to talk to his teacher either separately or during the parents-teachers meeting.

On the other hand if you find that your child is among very few students who find difficulty completing homework, pay attention to the reason behind that. In any case, you should not come up to complete your child’s homework. This will help your child learn to work independently and develop his self confidence also.

Is homework really needed? Why are kids not able to complete homework on time? How can parents help kids to deal with homework stress? Discuss here.

Good tips. As mentioned in the article I have fixed a separate area for my kid to do his homework and study. He gets less distraction and this has improved his concentration levels and he also completes work faster.
