Sleep deprivation can lead to health and lifestyle problems. All you have to do to be charged with energy and get going is, go to sleep.


How many times do you press the snooze button on your alarm for just five more minutes and end up getting late? While there are people who fight to get out of bed there are some who cannot go to bed. People who stay up late at night and get up early in the morning may be at a health risk. Lack of sleep affects an individual in all spheres of life. Dealing with insomnia may be difficult but not impossible. The first thing you have to do to get some sleep is stop fighting insomnia. Avoid stressing yourself over the fact that you have a sleeping disorder.

Going to sleep is giving your body the rest it needs to function well. So to provide this avoid pushing yourself to sleep. Instead get out of your bed and start reading a nice book. An adult needs about eight hours of sleep. An infant needs more sleep. If you are suffering from insomnia then you need to check your sleeping pattern and even the place you sleep in. Always remember the good points of sleeping. Listed below are some of the benefits and ways of getting sound sleep.

Sound sleep lowers stress levels

You are working hard and you certainly deserve to rest those nerves by getting some sound sleep. Remember it is not the quantity but the quality of sleep that matters. Improper sleep adds to an already stressful life. Not getting enough sleep increases the stress level and can also lead to premature aging. When your body lacks sufficient sleep it experiences stress. Stress hormones are released when you confront some kind of tension. You may feel weak, fatigued and have no energy. Adequate and sound sleep helps lower these stress levels.


Sleeping well helps lose weight

Sleep deficiency could lead to obesity. Sleep disorders such as sleep apnea lead to increase in weight. Lack of sleep affects the balance of hormones that are related to appetite. If you want to get into a perfect shape then you can lose weight while you are sleeping without taking any pills. But do not over sleep and think that you will wake up stick thin one fine morning.


Beauty sleep

While you are sleeping you body develops new cells. It repairs all the damages that could happen due to everyday stress. Body produces more proteins while sleeping which helps building new cells. Sleeping enough can delay the onset of wrinkles. Sleeping also helps fight dark circles and puffy eyes. Skin products and medicines work better at night since your skin is under repair. Imagine the refreshing feeling you get after you wake up from an afternoon nap. Now you know why sleeping beauty was called so.


Sleeping helps stay alert

Getting enough sleep helps you to stay alert. When you get adequate good night's sleep you tend to feel refreshed the next day. You feel energized. Lack of sleep can make you feel dull and depressed all day long. It is necessary to get enough sleep to remain active the entire day. If you get an urge to take small naps in between your work or studies then you must be not getting enough sleep. Each person requires certain hours of sleep according to his or her body. The usual pattern is eight hours of sleep at night. For some it may be ten hours or even seven hours. Find out how much sleep you require and work out a sleeping time.


Sleep well to improve concentration

Many youngsters have a habit to study till late night, especially when exams are near. Many face lack of concentration during their examination. There are cases when students experience drowsiness while attempting exams which may affect their grades. The reason behind this can be insufficient sleep. Improved sleeping patterns and quality increase the ability to concentrate and improves memory span.


A good night's sleep for a healthy heart

Getting sufficient sleep keeps your heart healthy. Healthy sleep reduces level of stress and inflammation. Sleep deprivation could lead to heart problems such as heart aches, heart attacks, strokes and blood pressure. Good sleep is extremely important to maintain a healthy heart and to keep cardiovascular problems away.


How to get sound sleep

Have you been trying hard to get enough sleep? You lie in bed counting sheep and there is no sign of sleep. You are wide awake but shut your eyes just so that you might get knocked out in some minutes. Try as much you still end up sleeping late and the cycle continues. Here's help at hand to wish yourself good night and make a swift drift to sleep.

  • Adopt a habit to follow the same time while going o bed and while waking up. Follow this routine even on weekends and holidays.

  • Workout regularly. Regular workout boosts blood circulation. It helps sleep well

  • Avoid drinks such as coffee a few hours before bedtime

  • Avoid smoking before hit the bed

  • Listen to soothing music if you are not able to get sleep

  • Meditate and will calm your mind. Try deep breathing

  • Take a cold shower before going to bed

  • Read a book. It works

  • Avoid reading newspapers or watching television before going to sleep

  • Keep your bedroom dark and cool. Make it as comfortable and inviting

  • Have a glass of warm milk or chamomile tea before going to bed

  • Consult a psychiatrist or talk to a close friend if you are suffering with anxiety
Sleep deprivation is the cause to many sleep disorders like sleep apnea, snoring, insomnia and. It can also make you feel weak, dizzy and affect blood pressure. Do not suffer in the silence. Check if you have improper sleep patterns or any kind of sleep related disorder. Treat yourself to some sound sleep to rise and shine everyday.
