Let's look at the basic of buying a new desktop system.
What are your System Requirements?
Different people buy computers for different reasons. Some people buy
one for casual Internet surfing, others for entertainment, some for
gaming, but most people buy computers for work. You must make a list of the things that you will use the computer for, so that you know what features your computer will require. A lot of people waste money on selecting features or accessories that they will never use, like say a joystick or a webcam.
If you plan to use your computer for business, you will need a basic machine with plenty of software. Also make sure you get a good antivirus for this computer. If you plan to use the desktop for surfing and listening to music,
then you can go for a basic computer with a good soundcard, and good
quality antivirus. If you plan to watch movies, invest more in the
video card and a good quality screen, like an LCD or plasma screen. It
would also be smart to include a TV tuner card, so you can watch cable
on your computer too.
If you are a gamer, then you have to research a bit before you invest in a desktop system. This is because new games come out with the most demanding of system requirements.
So a gaming computer may need a lot of initial investment, but make
sure you go for a hardy processor, a high quality video card and a
decent soundcard. Also make sure there is ample RAM in the desktop,
because the games will need it.
Finding the Right Desktop Computer
There are areas in most big cities of India which are completely
dedicated to computer sales and service. But before you head there,
make your list of system requirements,
and speak to someone who recently bought a computer or plans to. This
way you can compare notes and maybe even get a big discount.
Once you find the area, go to at least five or six shops to compare
prices. Computer shops are always competing with each other, and there
will be some shop in the area that offers the best prices. Also,
enquire about warranties and the annual maintenance contracts that the
dealer offers. Many dealers also give a lot of free accessories to lure
customers. Make sure the accessories you choose are relevant to you and
not just eye-wash.
You can also choose to buy an assembled computer instead of a
branded one. Both have their own advantages and disadvantages. Branded
computers are less powerful, but are more reliable and come with better
warranties. Assembled computers are way cheaper, offer more flexibility
and accessories. It really comes down to personal choice.
So go ahead and shop for that desktop computer with these points in mind. We are sure you will find the perfect one!
